गुमला – गुमला जिले के विभिन्न प्रखंडों, ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों और कस्बों में सर्पदंश के मामले लगातार बढ़ रहे हैं। अब तक अंधविश्वास, देहाती जड़ी-बूटियों से इलाज, दूरस्थ क्षेत्रों में सड़क की कमी और शिक्षा का अभाव, इन घटनाओं का प्रमुख कारण बन रहे हैं। इस साल अब तक सर्पदंश से आधा दर्जन से अधिक लोगों की मौत हो चुकी है।
ताजा मामला गुमला जिला अंतर्गत सुरसांग थाना क्षेत्र के गड़गड़ लोंडरा गांव का है, जहां 22 वर्षीय विवाहिता रेशमा कुमारी की सर्पदंश से मृत्यु हो गई। जानकारी के अनुसार, रेशमा एक सप्ताह पहले अपने ससुराल, सुगहकाटें डाडगांव (रायडीह थाना) से मायके गड़गड़ लोंडरा आई थीं। मंगलवार की रात जब वह जमीन पर सो रही थीं, सुबह लगभग 5 बजे एक जहरीले करैत सांप ने उनके गर्दन पर काट लिया। परिजनों ने उन्हें तुरंत गुमला सदर अस्पताल पहुंचाया, जहां डॉक्टरों ने उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया।
घटना की सूचना मिलते ही पुलिस ने त्वरित कार्रवाई करते हुए शव को कब्जे में लेकर पोस्टमार्टम के लिए गुमला सदर अस्पताल भेजा। पोस्टमार्टम के बाद शव परिजनों को सौंप दिया गया। इस घटना ने फिर से अंधविश्वास और ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में चिकित्सा सुविधाओं की कमी को उजागर किया है।
