Even police officers have been suspended, according to PTI, which cited an official, for reportedly giving DHFL promoters Kapil Wadhawan and Dheeraj Wadhawan, who were detained in connection with a multi-billion dollar bank loan scandal, extra care during medical examinations at Mumbai hospitals.
According to the source, the Wadhawan brothers are currently being held under judicial supervision and are being held at the Taloja prison in nearby Navi Mumbai.
A TV station recently aired footage of the Wadhawan brothers, who were being held in judicial custody, taking advantage of different privileges while posing as patients for medical exams at government facilities in Mumbai.
A group of Navi Mumbai police were sent from Taloja prison to accompany the two accused people to the hospitals.
The police officers who escorted the Wadhawan brothers were deemed to have been negligent during the review by senior police authorities.
As a result, six constables and a sub-inspector have been suspended, according to a senior police officer.
He claimed that on Tuesday night, the suspension orders were issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters).
The Wadhawan brothers are accused of cheating and fraud in a number of cases.
In a case involving suspected fraud at Yes Bank, Dheeraj Wadhawan, the promoter of the now defunct Dewan Housing Finance Ltd (DHFL), was detained. A special CBI court in this city last month denied him medical release.
Although he had a cardiac condition, the court permitted him to receive treatment at a private hospital.
The businessman was ordered by the court to pay for the expense of the prison guards accompanying him and not extend his hospital stay.
The Kalwa police detained a suspended police officer who had rebranded as a spiritual guru on August 24. In connection with a rape case, Gokul Jadhav and his 21-year-old son Anirudh were detained earlier this month. According to reports, the incident took place between January 2021 and June 2023.
In her thorough statement to the police, the survivor explained: “Eight days before our wedding, my husband and I went to buy jewellery. There, we were introduced to Jadhav—a friend of my husband. I declined his offer of gold from a box when he invited us to his home in Vitawa, Thane. Then, since they were familiar with my husband, he introduced me to his wife, son, and daughter.
In January 2021, her father was hospitalised in Navi Mumbai for kidney-related problems, according to the survivor’s statement. Her husband spent nearly two months in the hospital while taking care of her ailing father. Jadhav’s wife Ashwini and son Anirudh visited her at this time and accused her husband of having an extramarital affair. The statement adds, “I defended my husband, but they insisted I come to their house to see for myself.
The Kalwa police have filed a complaint against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and pertinent clauses of the 2013 Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practises and Black Magic Act.
According to K P Thorat, senior police inspector at the Kalwa police station, “the accused have been captured, and an investigation is underway.” After being accused of extortion ten years ago, Jadhav, who had previously served as a policeman with the Navi Mumbai police, faced suspension. He started acting like a spiritual guru after that. Authorities’ discovery of Jadhav’s pricey houses has prompted additional inquiries. (Agencies)
