Mumbai, March 5: India secured a thrilling 7-run victory over England in a high-scoring semi-final clash of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, booking their place in the tournament final after a nail-biting contest at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Batting first, India delivered a powerful performance with the bat, posting a massive total on the scoreboard. Sanju Samson led the charge with a spectacular 89 runs off 42 balls, playing aggressive strokes all around the ground and keeping the scoreboard ticking. His innings included several boundaries and towering sixes that energized the packed stadium. India’s middle order also contributed valuable runs, helping the team build a formidable total that put England under pressure.
Chasing the huge target, England came out with intent and fought back strongly. Young star Jacob Bethell produced a stunning innings, smashing 105 runs from just 48 deliveries and keeping England in the hunt till the very last overs. His fearless batting shifted momentum multiple times and made the contest extremely tense.
Despite England’s spirited chase, India’s bowlers held their nerve in the crucial moments. Hardik Pandya delivered a key bowling performance, picking up important wickets and controlling the scoring during the death overs. The Indian bowling unit maintained composure under pressure and successfully defended the total in the final over.
The dramatic finish kept fans on the edge of their seats as England needed quick runs in the closing deliveries, but disciplined bowling ensured India crossed the line.
With this victory, India has advanced to the final of the T20 World Cup 2026, where they will face New Zealand, who defeated South Africa in the first semi-final. The win sparked celebrations among Indian supporters, as the team moved one step closer to lifting the coveted world title.
