चैनपुर में जंगली हाथियों का उत्पात, कई एकड़ मकई और मड़ुआ की फसल रौंदी

गुमला: जिले के चैनपुर प्रखंड क्षेत्र में जंगली हाथियों का उत्पात लगातार बढ़ता जा रहा है। तीन जंगली हाथियों के झुंड ने कुरुमगढ़ वन क्षेत्र के बरवेनगर और पारहाटोली गांव में बीती रात कई एकड़ में लगी मकई और मड़ुआ की फसल को रौंदकर बर्बाद कर दिया। हाथियों की आहट से ग्रामीणों में दहशत का माहौल रहा। अपनी फसल और घरों को बचाने के लिए ग्रामीण पूरी रात रतजगा करते रहे।

ग्रामीणों के अनुसार, हाथियों ने परमानंद सिंह की करीब चार एकड़ और प्रमोद साय की करीब दो एकड़ मकई की फसल को नष्ट कर दिया। इसके अलावा कुंवर कंवर, दशरथ कंवर, देवेंद्र रौतिया और गोपाल रौतिया की मकई की फसल भी हाथियों ने रौंद दी। वहीं मधुसूदन कंवर और रंजीत रौतिया की मड़ुआ की फसल को भी हाथियों ने पूरी तरह बर्बाद कर दिया।

ग्रामीणों ने बताया कि हाथियों के गांव के आसपास पहुंचने के बाद लोगों ने पूरी रात जागकर अपनी जान-माल और फसल की सुरक्षा की। घटना की जानकारी मिलने के बाद वन विभाग की टीम मौके पर पहुंची। ग्रामीणों की मदद से हाथियों को इलाके से बाहर खदेड़ा गया।

अकेले हाथी ने घर को पहुंचाया नुकसान

इसी दौरान कुलाही गांव में एक अन्य घटना में एक अकेले जंगली हाथी ने शांति देवी, पति मंगल तुरी के घर को क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया। घटना की सूचना मिलने के बाद जिला परिषद सदस्य मेरी लकड़ा और प्रभारी वनपाल राजकुमार साहू मौके पर पहुंचे। अधिकारियों ने पीड़ित परिवार के घर और संपत्ति को हुए नुकसान का आकलन किया तथा सरकारी प्रावधान के तहत जल्द मुआवजा दिलाने का आश्वासन दिया।

लगातार हाथियों के आने से ग्रामीण परेशान

ग्रामीणों का कहना है कि क्षेत्र में जंगली हाथियों का आना कोई नई बात नहीं है। हर वर्ष हाथियों के झुंड के जंगल से निकलकर आसपास के गांवों में पहुंचने से किसानों को फसल और मकानों का नुकसान उठाना पड़ता है। हाथी खेतों में लगी फसलों और घरों में रखे खाद्यान्न को नुकसान पहुंचाते हैं, जिससे खेती पर निर्भर परिवारों के सामने आर्थिक संकट खड़ा हो जाता है।

लगातार हो रहे नुकसान से ग्रामीणों में वन विभाग के प्रति नाराजगी भी है। ग्रामीणों ने हाथियों की आवाजाही पर निगरानी बढ़ाने, उन्हें आबादी वाले क्षेत्रों में आने से रोकने के लिए प्रभावी और स्थायी उपाय करने तथा क्षतिग्रस्त फसलों का जल्द मुआवजा देने की मांग की है।
