Atishi Takes Charge as Delhi CM, Compares Role to Bharat’s Rule in Ramayana

Atishi expresses her feelings about leading Delhi, drawing parallels to Bharat's caretaking role during Lord Ram's exile.

Delhi – Senior AAP leader Atishi officially assumed the role of acting Chief Minister of Delhi today. In an emotional post shared online, she compared her new responsibility to the legendary story of Bharat, who governed Ayodhya in the absence of his elder brother, Lord Ram, during his 14-year exile.

Atishi’s post, shared on the social media platform X, reflects her sense of duty and the deep respect she holds for the leadership she is stepping into temporarily. She likened her role over the next four months to Bharat’s caretaking of the kingdom, symbolically holding Lord Ram’s sandals (khadau) as a mark of respect and service.

“Today, I have taken on the responsibility of Delhi’s Chief Minister,” Atishi wrote. “I feel the same emotion that Bharat must have felt when his elder brother, Lord Ram, went into exile for 14 years, and Bharat had to take care of Ayodhya.”

Atishi’s reference to Bharat managing Ayodhya underlined her respect for Delhi’s leadership, particularly in the absence of the state’s full-time chief minister. She emphasized that, like Bharat, she will lead the capital with a sense of duty and humility, aiming to maintain stability and governance.

“Just as Bharat ruled Ayodhya with Lord Ram’s sandals, I will lead Delhi for the next four months,” she added.

Atishi is taking over in the absence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is expected to be away for official duties. As a key figure in the Delhi government, she has been entrusted with running the daily affairs of the state during this period.

Who is Atishi?

Atishi is a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and has held various roles in the Delhi government, particularly in education reforms. Her work in improving Delhi’s public school system has earned her praise and recognition. Now, as she steps into the acting CM’s role, she aims to continue the governance with a focus on maintaining ongoing projects and handling any pressing issues.

Public Response

Atishi’s symbolic comparison to Bharat from the Ramayana has resonated with many supporters, reflecting her commitment to leading with honor and responsibility. “Atishi has always been dedicated to public service,” said a political observer. “Her leadership, even for these four months, is expected to bring stability and continuity to Delhi.”

Atishi’s leadership in the coming months will be closely watched as she navigates the challenges of managing the capital city. Her symbolic message, inspired by the Ramayana, sets the tone for a period of careful stewardship and respect for the office she temporarily holds.
