गुमला — हड़प्पा काल से चली आ रही मिट्टी के बर्तनों की परंपरा आज भी जीवित है और आधुनिक रूप लेकर लोगों की रसोई व धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों में अपनी जगह बनाए हुए है। झारखंड के कारीगर अब परंपरागत चाक पर आधुनिक तकनीक का इस्तेमाल कर मिट्टी से नए-नए आकार और डिज़ाइन के बर्तन तैयार कर रहे हैं, जिनकी मांग न केवल ग्रामीण इलाकों में बल्कि राजधानी रांची से लेकर देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों तक बढ़ गई है।

प्राचीन सभ्यता से आज तक जुड़ी धरोहर
इतिहासकारों का मानना है कि हड़प्पा और मोहनजोदड़ो की खुदाई में मिले मिट्टी के बर्तन इस परंपरा की गवाही देते हैं। इन्हें देखकर यह स्पष्ट होता है कि मिट्टी का संबंध मानव सभ्यता से अनादिकाल से है। पूजा-पाठ, यज्ञ और अंतिम संस्कार जैसे संस्कारों से लेकर घरों की रसोई तक मिट्टी और मिट्टी के बर्तनों का स्थान सनातन धर्म में सदैव सम्मानित रहा है।

आधुनिक रसोई की शान बने मिट्टी के बर्तन
आज के दौर में कुम्हार समुदाय न केवल परंपरागत हांडी, सुराही, घड़ा और दीये बना रहा है बल्कि आधुनिक समय की जरूरतों को ध्यान में रखते हुए मिट्टी के प्रेशर कुकर, थर्मस और आकर्षक डिनर सेट भी तैयार कर रहा है। ये बर्तन न सिर्फ देखने में आकर्षक हैं बल्कि स्वास्थ्य की दृष्टि से भी लाभकारी माने जाते हैं। यही कारण है कि गृहिणियां इन्हें अपनी रसोई में गर्व से स्थान दे रही हैं।

धार्मिक और सांस्कृतिक महत्व
मिट्टी के बर्तनों का संबंध केवल रसोई तक सीमित नहीं है। दीपावली पर मिट्टी के दीप, लक्ष्मी-गणेश की प्रतिमाएं, खिलौने और कलश विशेष रूप से खरीदे जाते हैं। छठ महापर्व और बड़े-बड़े यज्ञों में भी मिट्टी से बने पात्रों का ही उपयोग किया जाता है। ग्रामीण इलाकों में गर्मी के दिनों में आज भी मिट्टी का घड़ा ‘देहाती फ्रिज’ की तरह प्रयोग होता है, जिससे शुद्ध और ठंडा पानी लोगों तक पहुँचाया जाता है।

कारीगरों की कारीगरी ने दी नई पहचान
गुमला और आसपास के जिलों में कारीगर अब मिट्टी के बर्तनों को आधुनिक रूप देकर बाजार में बेच रहे हैं। इन बर्तनों की मांग इतनी बढ़ी है कि अब ये सिर्फ गांवों तक सीमित नहीं हैं, बल्कि शहरी बाजारों और बड़े मॉल तक पहुंच चुके हैं। स्थानीय कुम्हारों का कहना है कि यह कला न केवल उनकी परंपरा को जीवित रखे हुए है बल्कि रोजगार का साधन भी बनी है।

सनातन परंपरा का स्थायी हिस्सा
मिट्टी के बर्तन आज भी सनातन धर्म का अभिन्न अंग हैं। चाहे घर का पूजा स्थल हो, त्यौहारों की रौनक हो या फिर साधारण रसोईघर — मिट्टी के बर्तनों का महत्व हर जगह कायम है। यह परंपरा केवल धार्मिक आस्था ही नहीं बल्कि भारतीय संस्कृति और लोकजीवन की पहचान भी है।
