उत्तर प्रदेश विधानसभा में महिला आरक्षण के मुद्दे पर चर्चा के दौरान Raghuraj Pratap Singh ने अपनी राय रखते हुए ऐसा बयान दिया कि सदन में हंसी का माहौल बन गया। उनकी टिप्पणी पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए विधानसभा अध्यक्ष Satish Mahana ने मजाकिया अंदाज में कहा कि “कहीं बेटी बचाओ की जगह बेटा बचाओ की नौबत न आ जाए।”
राजा भैया ने कहा कि आज महिलाएं हर क्षेत्र में तेजी से आगे बढ़ रही हैं, चाहे वह खेल हो, विज्ञान हो या अन्य कोई क्षेत्र। उन्होंने महिलाओं की उपलब्धियों पर गर्व जताते हुए कहा कि उनकी प्रगति सराहनीय है। हालांकि, राजनीति में आरक्षण के विषय पर उन्होंने गंभीरता से विचार करने की जरूरत बताई।
उन्होंने पंचायत चुनाव का उदाहरण देते हुए कहा कि भले ही महिलाओं को आरक्षण मिला हुआ है, लेकिन जमीनी हकीकत यह है कि कई जगह लोगों को प्रधान का नाम तक नहीं पता होता, जबकि “प्रधान पति” का नाम सब जानते हैं।
आगे उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly में मौजूद कई महिला सदस्य बिना किसी आरक्षण के अपने दम पर जीतकर आई हैं और उन्होंने पुरुष उम्मीदवारों को हराया है। अंत में उन्होंने संतुलन बनाए रखने की बात कहते हुए कहा कि कहीं ऐसा न हो कि आने वाले वर्षों में पुरुषों के लिए विशेष सत्र बुलाना पड़े।
