Why Jharkhand becoming cyber criminals hub

Jharkhand, one of India’s eastern states, has become a hotbed of cybercrime in recent years. The state, which is home to several major cities, including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad, has seen a significant increase in cybercrime activities in recent years. In this article, we will explore the reasons behind Jharkhand’s emergence as a cybercriminal hub.

History of these Thugs

All it started in way back year 2000, few youth from Jamtara, a district in Jharkhand went to New Delhi in search of job and they started working in call center of bank, they came to know all the loopholes of banking systems and some of them started cyber fraud with coupon codes, which gradually moved to banking system. They thought to move back to their hometown Jamtara and continue the fraud skills as being in Delhi / NCR was bit risky and cost of living was high. They moved to Jamtara and started training unemployed youth. As it was easy way for earning money it attracted more youth into the game and as days passed by the area Karmatand of Jamtara became famous for Cyber Criminals. As per a article published on TOI, every year almost 28 state police visits Jamtara for investigation .

Spreading to other areas in Jharkhand

Slowly the cyber thugs realized the place Jamtara is no more safe heaven for them and they starting moving to nearby towns . Giridih , Deoghar , Dhanbad , Dumka , Chatra , Bokaro, etc. Operating from these areas are bit safe due to geographic and demographics reasons . so nowdays these thugs are operating from almost all the big and small cities of Jharkhand .

Lack of Awareness and Education

One of the primary reasons behind Jharkhand’s rise as a cybercriminal hub is the lack of awareness and education among the general public. Most people in the state are not aware of the dangers of cybercrime and the measures they can take to protect themselves. This lack of awareness makes them vulnerable to cybercriminals who use various tactics, including phishing, social engineering, and malware attacks, to steal sensitive information and money.

Rapid Digitalization

Another reason behind Jharkhand’s emergence as a cybercriminal hub is the rapid digitalization of the state. The government has been promoting the use of digital technologies in various sectors, including banking, healthcare, and education. This digitalization has led to an increase in the number of online transactions, making it easier for cybercriminals to target individuals and organizations.

Lack of Cybersecurity Infrastructure

Jharkhand also lacks a robust cybersecurity infrastructure. The state does not have enough cybersecurity experts, and the existing infrastructure is inadequate to deal with the growing threat of cybercrime. This lack of cybersecurity infrastructure makes it easier for cybercriminals to carry out their activities without fear of being caught.

Increasing Unemployment

Unemployment is another major issue in Jharkhand, and it has been increasing in recent years. This has led to a rise in the number of young people who are turning to cybercrime as a means of earning money. Cybercrime is an attractive option for these young people as it does not require any physical presence and can be carried out from anywhere in the world.

Poor Law Enforcement

The poor law enforcement in Jharkhand is another reason behind the state’s emergence as a cybercriminal hub. The police force in the state is understaffed and lacks the expertise to deal with cybercrime. The lack of coordination between different law enforcement agencies further exacerbates the problem.

Political Instability

Jharkhand has been plagued by political instability for several years. This instability has led to a breakdown of law and order in the state, making it easier for cybercriminals to operate. The lack of political will to tackle cybercrime has also contributed to the problem.

Conclusion

Jharkhand’s emergence as a cybercriminal hub is a cause for concern. The lack of awareness and education, rapid digitalization, poor cybersecurity infrastructure, increasing unemployment, poor law enforcement, and political instability are the main reasons behind this problem. To tackle this problem, there is a need for a concerted effort by the government, law enforcement agencies, and the general public. The government needs to invest in cybersecurity infrastructure and create awareness programs to educate the public about the dangers of cybercrime. The law enforcement agencies need to be equipped with the necessary expertise and tools to deal with cybercrime effectively. Finally, the general public needs to be more aware and cautious about their online activities to protect themselves from cybercriminals. Only through a collaborative effort can Jharkhand overcome its cybercrime problem and create a safer and more secure digital environment.
