The Indian Air Force (IAF) is putting in place strict security measures to guarantee the security of the event as the highly anticipated G-20 Summit, scheduled to convene in the national capital in a few days, approaches. The IAF is prepared to deploy a constellation of resources, including airborne warning systems, fighter jets like the cutting-edge Rafale, and cutting-edge air defence missile systems at key locations, in an effort to protect the Delhi airspace and provide a secure environment for high-level gatherings.
The deployment of counter-drone systems and air defence missiles to combat any possible airborne threats is part of a comprehensive defence strategy that the IAF is orchestrating with various security agencies, according to sources within the defence establishment.
Through the use of Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS), sometimes known as the “eyes in the sky,” the northern parts of the country will continue to be closely monitored. The area will be continuously monitored by these aircraft equipment to spot any suspicious movements or activity.
The indigenous surveillance plane “Netra,” which will work with AWACS to provide real-time intelligence to security forces, will be essential to the monitoring activities.
Several air bases that are part of the Western Air Command and the South Western Air Command and are in the area of the national capital territory are being put on high alert. These air bases will be completely operational and ready to react quickly to any threats posed by aerial platforms.
The IAF has activated a complete surface air defence missile system, comprising the Akash air defence missile system and the Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM), to neutralise possible airborne threats. These advanced systems can engage targets at distances of up to 80 km, ensuring a strong defence perimeter.
The G20 Summit is set to be a high-profile event of historic scope with the attendance of dignitaries and leaders from around the world, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Japan, France, Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Italy. Because of this, the Indian defence forces will send out Special Forces to defend important sites, demonstrating their dedication to offering the best possible security.
In line with the procedures established during India’s national day festivities, such as Republic Day and Independence Day, the G20 Summit’s degree of preparation and security measures are in place. The nation’s capital maintains the highest levels of air defence during certain times.
For the G20 Summit, the Delhi government is concentrating on medical readiness in addition to security preparations. The major summit venue, Bharat Mandapam, will have a fleet of 50 strategically placed ambulances, each with a medical team inside. Other important locations include hotels and airports. The backup facilities at prominent hospitals like RML (Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital) and AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) are further support for this proactive approach, which strives to ensure prompt medical help in the event of unanticipated situations.
In addition to the medical preparation programmes, Delhi is getting ready to greet the G20 Summit with a dash of the natural world. Incredibly, 6.75 lakh floral plants and leaf arrangements will adorn specific roadways and locations all throughout the city. The summit’s atmosphere would be improved by transforming major areas including Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, and Teen Murti Marg into aesthetically pleasing settings.
