Hyderabad is severely flooded as a result of the Telangana Rains, and today’s classes are cancelled

Hyderabad was severely waterlogged as a result of the heavy rains, and the city’s traffic was backed up. A yellow alert has been issued in the city today by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

For the ensuing several hours, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner has urged residents to stay inside unless absolutely necessary. Additionally, a helpline number has been provided for citizens in need of support. It stated in a post, “Please stay inside your home for the foreseeable future unless absolutely necessary. Our teams, which total more than 3000 people, are removing water logging around the city. For GHMC-DRF support, dial 9000113667 or 040-21111111 from a landline.

Anudeep Durishetty, the district collector for the city, has issued a notification stating that all educational institutions in Hyderabad will be closed today due to the heavy rainfall. He has asked everyone to remain indoors. He posted the following on X (previously Twitter): “Important Announcement: The administration has announced today a holiday for all educational institutions in Hyderabad in light of the significant rainfall anticipated for Hyderabad. Stay safe by staying inside.

Additionally, an orange notice has been issued in various districts of the state, and the Hyderabad Met Department has predicted that light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are highly likely to occur at most locations over Telangana today.

According to the Met Department, Telangana’s districts have been placed on yellow alert for heavy rainfall. Asifabad, Karimnagar, Suryapet, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Peddapally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Rangareddy,Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Adilabad, Komaram Bheem,  Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri.

In the Telangana districts of Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagityal, Rajanna Sirsilla, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Janagaon, an orange alert of severe to very heavy rain has been predicted at a few isolated locations. According to the IMD announcement, the Met department has issued a Yellow notice for the state through September 7.

In the interim, states in South India other than Telangana have also been warned that severe rains are imminent. IMD has forecasted isolated heavy rainfall over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana during September 4–7; over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe during September 4–8; over Rayalaseema on September 4 and 5; over North Interior Karnataka on September 6 and 7; over Coastal & South Interior Karnataka during September 6–8; and over South Interior Karnataka on September 6 and 7.
