The White House has stated that US Vice President Joe Biden will be traveling to India for the forthcoming G20 Summit in the nation’s capital, New Delhi, as he has tested negative for COVID-19.
Additionally, he will meet privately with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Before the G20 Summit, on September 8, the gathering will take place.
“The President will go to New Delhi on Thursday to attend the G20 leaders’ summit. President Biden will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi on Friday, as well as the official sessions of the G20 summit on Saturday and Sunday, according to US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan, who spoke at a press conference at the White House on Tuesday (Sept. 5).
“Delivering for developing countries, making progress on key priorities for the American people from climate to technology, and showing our [its] commitment to the G 20,” according to Sullivan, are the main goals for the United States in New Delhi.
President Biden would adhere to the COVID-19 recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) while traveling to New Delhi, according to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
“He [Biden] is not experiencing any symptoms as far as the steps that he is taking since the President was with the First Lady yesterday. He will be masking while indoors and around people in alignment with CDC guidance,” Jean-Pierre said. He will remove his mask when sufficiently distant from others indoors and outside as well, Jean-Pierre added.
Jill Biden will stay in her house
Since his wife, Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, tested positive for covid on Monday, Sept. 4, there was uncertainty over Biden’s attendance at the G20.
Jill was initially anticipated to attend the meeting as well, but US officials said that she will stay at their Delaware home.
“This evening, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19. She is currently experiencing only mild symptoms. She will remain at their home in Rehobot,” First Lady’s Communications Director Elizabeth Alexander said.
Meeting between Modi and the president of the UAE
During the weekend’s multilateral event, PM Modi will meet privately with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed in addition to Biden.
India has invited the UAE to attend the G-20 conference as a guest.
Mohammed Bin Zayed’s trip to India would undoubtedly be his first since taking office as president of the Emirate last year.
On his way back from France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped in the UAE on July 15.
UAE is one of the few nations that has begun local currency commerce in oil and gold with India. It is a close ally of that nation.
