Day 1 box office haul in India: Shankar’s vigilante thriller, which stars Kamal Haasan, is a follow-up to their classic 1996 release. It is available in three languages.
After an 18-year hiatus, Shankar and Kamal Haasan return with Indian 2, the first day’s box office collection. Indian is a cult vigilante drama film from 1996. The pan-Indian movie, according to Sacnilk, opened at ₹25.6 crores despite receiving mostly unfavorable reviews.
Indian 2 took in ₹25.6 crore on its first day of release in India, of which ₹16.5 crore came from Tamil, ₹7.9 crore from Telugu, and ₹1.2 crore from Hindi.
Bharateeyudu 2 and Hindustani 2 are the Telugu and Hindi names for the respective releases. In the Hindi market, it competed with Sarfira, Sudha Kongara’s version of Soorarai Pottru starring Akshay Kumar.
The picture has competition from Nag Ashwin’s pan-Indian dystopian sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, which opened a few weeks ago and is still raking in big bucks at theatres all over the nation. Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone play the main roles in the movie. It’s interesting to note that Kamal Haasan appears in a few moments as Supreme Yaskin, the main adversary. It’s anticipated that he’ll appear in more of the follow-up film.
