The oil tanker carrying sixteen crew members, including over thirteen Indian nationals, overturned off the coast of Oman, according to the nation’s marine security center. The missing members are being sought after through search and rescue efforts.
The crew of the oil tanker “Prestige Falcon,” which was flying the flag of Comoros, consisted of 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans, according to the marine security center. On Monday, the ship overturned 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, close to the port of Duqm in Oman.
Additionally, the oil tanker remained “submerged and inverted,” according to the Oman’s marine security center, which reported this to news agency Reuters. The center did not, however, provide confirmation on the stabilization of the ship or the presence of oil or oil products seeping into the ocean.
According to LSEG’s shipping data, the oil products tanker was constructed in 2007 and measures 117 meters in length. Usually, these tiny tankers are used for brief trips.
It should be mentioned that the Duqm Port, which serves as a significant center for the nation’s largest oil and gas mining projects, is situated on Oman’s southwest coast.
The oil tanker was traveling to the Yemeni port city of Aden when the catastrophe occurred.
