Aanvi Kamdar, a 27-year-old Mumbai-based travel influencer, tragically died after falling into a gorge while filming an Instagram Reel. Known for her travel content under the handle @theglocaljournal, Kamdar, a chartered accountant, was visiting the Kumbhe waterfall in Maharashtra’s Raigad district with seven friends on July 16, as reported by PTI.
While shooting a video, Kamdar slipped and fell approximately 300 feet into the gorge, according to Mangaon police.
Her friends immediately alerted local authorities, prompting a swift response. The rescue effort involved the Coast Guard, Kolad rescue team, and Maharashtra State Electricity Board staff. A rescuer on the scene described the difficulty of reaching Kamdar due to heavy rain and falling stones, necessitating the use of a vertical pulley to lift her out.
The six-hour rescue operation eventually succeeded, but Kamdar had sustained severe injuries. She was transported to the Mangaon taluka government hospital, where she died during treatment.
Following Anvi Kamdar’s passing, Managaon Police Inspector Tehsildar and other local authorities have issued an appeal to visitors and those in the vicinity. Traveling should be responsibly enjoyed by all. When traveling, put safety first. Avoid taking risks when visiting popular destinations.
