Abhijeet Bhattacharya Sparks Controversy with Remarks on Gandhi and Partition

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has sparked a major political and historical debate with his recent controversial remarks about Mahatma Gandhi and the Partition of India. His comments, made during a public discussion, have triggered strong reactions across social media and political circles, with supporters calling his words “a bold truth” while critics describe them as highly provocative.

Abhijeet stated that Mahatma Gandhi could be referred to as the “Father of Pakistan,” arguing that Gandhi’s political decisions and policies indirectly contributed to the creation of Pakistan during the Partition in 1947. According to him, the repeated compromises and negotiations with Muhammad Ali Jinnah strengthened the demand for a separate Muslim nation, eventually leading to the division of the country. He suggested that history should be revisited with a fresh perspective rather than accepting long-established narratives without question.

While speaking about India’s identity, Abhijeet emphasized what he described as the timeless and eternal nature of Bharat. He said that India is not the creation of any one individual but an ancient civilization that has existed for thousands of years through Sanatan culture, traditions, spirituality, and the sacrifices of countless generations. According to him, India’s roots are deeply connected with Sanatan Dharma, making the nation much older than modern political structures and ideologies.

Abhijeet further argued that because India’s civilization predates modern history by centuries, the country should not be limited to the idea of having a single “Father of the Nation.” Instead, he said India represents a continuous civilizational journey shaped by saints, freedom fighters, philosophers, warriors, and ordinary citizens over thousands of years.

His remarks have now evolved beyond a simple political statement and have opened a wider debate on nationalism, history, and cultural identity. Supporters believe his comments encourage people to rethink historical interpretations and rediscover India’s civilizational heritage. Critics, however, argue that such statements risk oversimplifying complex historical events and may create unnecessary controversy around respected national figures.

The debate continues to gain momentum online, reflecting how questions about history, identity, and nationalism remain deeply emotional and influential in modern India.
