In the 50-meter freestyle swimming competition, Petkar competed and won the gold medal, becoming a pioneer and an inspiration for the Indian Paralympic movement. He also took part in other competitions at the same Paralympics, including the 200-meter individual medley, 50-meter backstroke, and 100-meter freestyle.
