Udhayanidhi Stalin and Priyank Kharge have been arrested for “hurting religious sentiments” in the Sanatan Dharma comment controversy

Sanatan Dharma Remarks: According to the police, a FIR was filed against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s son Priyank Kharge and Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for allegedly inciting religious sentiment.

According to PTI sources, the two were arrested on Tuesday at the Civil Lines Police Station in this city and charged with violating IPC sections 295 A (promoting enmity between different religious groups) and 153 A (deliberate and malicious acts to insult religious sentiments).

According to the police, Udhayanidhi Stalin and Priyank Kharge were detained for their support of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s appeal to abolish Sanatan Dharma.

Lawyers Harsh Gupta and Ram Singh Lodhi filed the FIR after complaining that the politician’s remarks had hurt their sentiments. According to reports from PTI, they cited media reports on Stalin’s statement.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, has come under heavy fire after he suggested on Saturday that Sanatan Dharma should not only be resisted but also eliminated.

And yesterday, he declared that he will keep speaking out against Sanatan Dharma, unconcerned by the strong criticism to his views.

“I’ll talk about the problem I raised at the gathering on Saturday time and time again. I’ll say more now. Stalin remarked on Monday, “I warned that day that I would discuss a subject that would enrage many people, and that is exactly what has happened.

The controversy surrounding the Sanatana Dharma comment appears to have split the INDIA alliance, as leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for his “unadulterated hate speech.”

The opposition INDIA bloc, which is made up of the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Aam Aadmi Party, have distanced themselves from the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin because of comments he made about Sanatana Dharma.

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, remarked that people shouldn’t comment on anything that can offend people’s religious feelings and that she respects Sanatana Dharma.

“It is astonishing that a responsible politician would make such a completely irresponsible statement. The comment made by Thiru Udhayanidhi has my utmost respect for the great Tamil culture, but I strongly disagree with it, according to Congressman Karan Singh.

Congress Response

The Congress, however, emphasised that it respects all religions and that others are free to express their opinions.

The BJP raised concerns over its leaders’ silence on the subject and charged the Opposition coalition with being hostile to Hinduism, prompting the response from the Congress. Anurag Thakur, a union minister, claimed that the INDIA coalition had descended to “politics of polarisation.”

According to KC Venugopal, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), while Congress has a clear position, other political parties are entitled to express their own opinions.

“In reality, our position is very clear: ‘Sarvadharma Sambhav’ (equal respect for all religions) is the Congress ideology,” we claim. You must realise, nevertheless, that each political party is free to express its opinions, the speaker said.

The Congress leader declared, “We respect everyone’s beliefs.”
