Sub-inspector Pavitharan died in the tragic accident that occurred in the Pragati Maidan tunnel on Saturday night after his scooter rammed into a median barricade. The tragic accident occurred at around 10:30 pm. The accident has been recorded in the CCTV footage.
Pavitharan was returning home on his two-wheeler when the accident took place. He was traveling from India Gate towards IP Extension. As he turned left in the tunnel after the y-junction, his scooter lost control and his scooter collided with a median barricade, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the road. The CCTV footage captured the accident that showed the sub-inspector losing control of his scooter and colliding with the divider, resulting in severe injuries. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. Due to severe injuries, he was declared dead upon arrival. Sharafat, a marshal, said: “I was present here when the accident occurred. He was still breathing when we put him in the ambulance.” His family members were immediately notified about the tragic incident presumably, he was from Kerala. Police are investigating the case and registered it under section 279(rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. The Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) denied any water leakage issues in the tunnel, as the tunnel was under repair.
According to the officials, the tunnel is safer now and the problem has been resolved, claiming that the event had nothing to do with these concerns. In addition, they cited earlier court cases in which the building company was sued for purported design flaws.
The accident reminded earlier mishaps, in which a 19-year-old teenager lost his life in a bike accident, he tripped over crash barriers and fell to the other side by accident. As a result of delays in receiving medical attention brought on by the tunnel’s weak signal coverage.
