Inspired by a major real-life court case, a fearless journalist exposes the corrupt actions of a renowned leader. You can watch as much as you like. In addition to Jaideep Ahlawat (“Jaane Jaan”), Junaid Khan makes his feature debut in this social issue drama.
The movie is based on the 1862 libel case of Karsandas Mulji, a social reformer and leader of the Vaishnavite religion. An article published in a Gujarati monthly by Mulji, which claimed that a Vaishnavaite leader had affairs with his female followers, gave rise to the 1862 libel case. Mulji was a social reformer and journalist who pioneered the cause of women’s rights and social change.
Junaid Khan, the son of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, makes his screen debut in the Netflix film “Maharaj,” which is based on the life of journalist Karsan Das Mulji. The story revolves around the life of a courageous journalist who used the force of his writing to battle against the “atrocities” committed by religious leaders, despite all odds against him.
Alongside Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey, Sharvari Wagh, and Jay Upadhyay star in a Hindi film directed by Karan P. Malhotra.
A Hindu group filed a lawsuit to stop its release on the grounds that it offended people’s religious feelings. Calls for boycotts on social media were another aspect of the protests against its distribution. After that, its release was put on hold for a week. On June 21, the Gujarat High Court lifted the suspension.
The Hindu said that the court’s decision stated, “Having viewed the film, this court found nothing objectionable that would hurt the religious feelings of petitioners or a sect.”
Following the court’s decision, production company Yash Raj Films (YRF) released a statement saying, “We are grateful to the judiciary for allowing the release of Maharaj, a film that celebrates one of our country’s most important social reformers, Karsandas Mulji.”
Filmfare rated Netflix’s most recent offering, which was originally scheduled for release on June 14, 3.5 out of 5. Actor Devesh Sharma called it “a fantastic platform for Junaid Khan to launch his career.” It is a picture that skillfully blends a gripping narrative, excellent acting, and direction.
