On Sunday morning, there was a significant accident on the walking route between Gaurikund and Kedarnath. Abruptly, a massive pile of rubble and stones tumbled down from the slope close to Chirbasa.
According to District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar, five pilgrims were hurt and three pilgrims lost their lives during the yatra. Two pilgrims from Maharashtra are reportedly among the injured, with the others being locals. For treatment, the injured have been taken to Gaurikund Hospital.
The information indicates that the incident occurred at 7:30 in the morning. The police administration team arrived at the scene as soon as they learned of the collision. Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing.
Kishore Arun Parate (31), of Nagpur, Maharashtra; Sunil Mahadev Kale (24), of Jalna, Maharashtra; Anurag Bisht, of Tilwara, Rudraprayag, have been named as the fatalities in the accident.
The 16-kilometer Gaurikund-Kedarnath walking route in Kedarnath is always in danger of landslides. Every rainy season, landslides occur in the Cheerbasa area as a result of stones falling from the slope. A avalanche from this slope claimed the life of a person last year as well.
