Mamta Banerjee Blames Tenughat Dam for Bengal Floods, Speaks to CM Hemant Soren

Phone Conversation

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has expressed concern over the flood situation by speaking to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on the phone. Mamta Banerjee stated that the sudden release of water from Jharkhand’s Tenughat dam is responsible for the floods in Bengal. She requested Hemant Soren to address this issue.

BJP’s Reaction

BJP leaders have reacted strongly to Mamata Banerjee’s statement. Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Amar Bauri, wrote on Instagram, “Mamata Banerjee says that ‘the Jharkhand government is responsible for the floods in West Bengal and she has also reprimanded the Chief Minister for this!’ Mamta Banerjee should stop blaming Jharkhand for her petty politics and bad governance. ‘Hemant Hemant’ may compromise with Jharkhandi identity, but ‘Bharatiya Janata Party Jharkhand’ will absolutely not tolerate this false narrative that the floods in Bengal are because of Jharkhand. Take care of your own house, stop blaming others!”

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Statement

Assam Chief Minister and Jharkhand BJP election co-in-charge, Himanta Biswa Sarma, also objected to Mamta Banerjee’s statement. He wrote on Twitter, “I respect Didi, but I cannot accept her belief that the Jharkhand government is responsible for the floods in West Bengal. Both governments should work together to reduce the difficulties of the people. Every year, water coming from the hills of Arunachal and Bhutan causes floods in Assam. However, we do not blame the Arunachal government or the Royal Bhutan government because we understand that water has no boundaries and it flows down naturally.”

The issue has intensified political tensions, with leaders from both states expressing their views. The situation calls for cooperation between the governments to effectively address and mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
