Ranchi: August 15, 2024 – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to launch a scathing attack on the opposition, accusing them of neglecting the needs of the state’s poor, farmers, and elderly during their tenure. In a fiery post, Soren emphasized how previous governments failed to prioritize social security for Jharkhand’s vulnerable populations while serving the interests of big businesses instead.
In his post, Soren wrote, “Jharkhand is home to a large number of poor people. Social security should have been the top priority here, but the previous governments, run by our opposition, ignored the social welfare of millions of needy people in the state.”
The Chief Minister alleged that previous governments lacked funds to waive off farmers’ loans, provide pensions to the elderly, or ensure dignity for women, yet they had ample resources to waive off debts worth thousands of crores for large corporate entities. “Before 2019, the people of Jharkhand neither received ration, jobs, money, nor employment opportunities. Despite having a double-engine government, people in normal times died of hunger. However, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, our government ensured that not a single person died due to hunger,” he added.
Soren also highlighted how his government worked tirelessly during the pandemic to protect both lives and livelihoods. “Since the formation of this government, the opposition has continuously conspired against us. We inherited an empty treasury from the previous regime, and yet, we have managed to steer the state towards progress,” Soren remarked.
Focusing on the welfare schemes initiated under his leadership, Soren claimed that his government connected crores of people to various schemes at the grassroots level. He accused the BJP of ruling the state for 20 years without substantial development, while continuously plotting against him. “They trapped me in false accusations, but even those allegations have been proven baseless,” Soren declared.
In his post, Soren took pride in the initiatives launched by his administration, including free electricity up to 200 units for the poor, pensions for the elderly, the Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana for young girls, and job opportunities for thousands of youths. He also addressed the upcoming assembly elections, accusing the opposition of intensifying their conspiracies. “As the elections approach, our opponents are desperate, bringing leaders from states like Chhattisgarh, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh. But with the blessings of the people, we will face them in the elections just like before,” Soren concluded.
The post is being widely shared and has sparked reactions across political circles in Jharkhand. The statement sets the stage for a highly charged election season, with Soren positioning his government as a protector of the poor and the marginalized, while accusing the opposition of elitism and neglect. The Chief Minister’s rhetoric signals the intensifying political battle in the state as election preparations begin.
