Ranchi, August 26, 2024 – The political landscape in Jharkhand has been buzzing with speculation as Assam Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma made a significant statement regarding Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Champai Soren. Sarma revealed that he has been in touch with Soren for the past six months and expressed his desire for the veteran JMM leader to join the BJP.
Addressing the media in Ranchi on Monday, Sarma openly acknowledged his long-standing communication with Champai Soren, hinting at the possibility of a major political shift. “I have been in contact with Champai Soren for the last six months, directly and indirectly. I personally wish for him to join the BJP and strengthen our party,” said Sarma. He further added, “However, given his seniority, I refrain from making any specific comments on his decision.”
Champai Soren’s Delhi Visit Fuels Speculation
The rumors around Champai Soren’s possible defection gained momentum as reports emerged of his visit to Delhi. Sources suggest that Soren, a prominent figure in the JMM and a former Jharkhand minister, is expected to hold crucial meetings with top BJP leaders in the next few days. This visit marks his second trip to the capital in a week, intensifying speculation about his potential move to the BJP.
Last week, Soren’s brief stay in Delhi via Kolkata was described as a “personal visit.” However, his emotional post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) hinted at his growing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs within the JMM and the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Observers noted clear signs of discontent, fueling chatter that Soren may be considering a switch to the BJP.
Sarma’s Remark Adds Fuel to the Fire
Sarma’s candid statement comes at a time when rumors about Champai Soren’s possible defection have been swirling. “If he is in Delhi, we may try to talk politics,” Sarma hinted, indicating that previous conversations with Soren had largely avoided political discussions. “It seems the time has now come to discuss political matters,” he added, signaling a possible breakthrough in talks.
Uncertainty Over Soren’s Next Move
While speculation grows, Champai Soren has remained tight-lipped about his future course of action. Despite ongoing rumors linking him with BJP leaders, including former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Soren has yet to make any public statements confirming or denying the speculations.
Insiders believe that Champai Soren’s next move could reshape the political dynamics in Jharkhand, particularly if he decides to part ways with the JMM. His potential entry into the BJP could bolster the party’s presence in the tribal-dominated state, giving them an edge in upcoming electoral battles.
As the situation develops, all eyes are on Champai Soren’s upcoming meetings in Delhi, where a definitive decision could emerge. Political observers believe that the next few days could be critical in determining whether Soren’s long-standing association with the JMM will continue or if he will make a dramatic shift to the BJP.
For now, the political atmosphere remains tense, with Himanta Biswa Sarma’s remarks adding more intrigue to an already charged scenario.
