Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the appointment of approximately 365 Community Health Officers (CHOs) under the state’s health department. In his post, the Chief Minister extended his best wishes to the newly appointed officers, marking this as another significant step in his administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance the healthcare system in the state.
“Today, around 365 Community Health Officers have been appointed on a contractual basis under the health department. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of you,” Soren wrote, expressing optimism about the positive impact these appointments will have on healthcare delivery across Jharkhand.
Soren highlighted that these new appointments are part of a broader initiative by the state government to bolster the public sector workforce. In recent years, the administration has successfully filled various key positions, including veterinarians, medical officers, lab assistants, forensic lab scientists for the first time, AYUSH practitioners, dentists, and Grade A nurses.
“We have made appointments through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) even during challenging times. For the first time, we appointed agriculture officers, horticulture officers, panchayat secretaries, clerks, and accountants. We have also recruited teachers, junior engineers, and assistant engineers. Thousands of appointments have been made, and thousands more are in the pipeline,” Soren stated, underscoring the extensive recruitment efforts undertaken by his government.
The Chief Minister urged the newly appointed CHOs to approach their roles with a deep sense of responsibility and dedication, particularly in the context of Jharkhand’s unique geographical and social landscape. He noted that many areas in the state, especially remote villages surrounded by forests, hills, and rivers, have limited access to healthcare facilities. Soren emphasized the importance of the CHOs in bridging this gap and ensuring that health services reach even the most isolated communities.
“You are about to begin a new chapter. You will take charge in a crucial area where your work will directly contribute to making healthcare services and government systems more accessible to the people of Jharkhand. Given the state’s geographic structure and social systems, you must work in such a way that healthcare services can be easily delivered to the local population,” Soren urged.
Soren also highlighted ongoing government efforts to provide basic healthcare facilities not only in the health department but also in welfare department hospitals and other medical centers. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure across the state, ensuring that residents do not have to seek treatment in other states.
“We remain deeply concerned about the improvement of the healthcare system. However, I believe that with the plans we have in place, we will soon be able to provide a robust healthcare system in the state, so no one needs to go elsewhere for treatment. The health of our people is paramount, and a healthy healthcare department is essential for this. To this end, we have allocated ₹5 crore specifically for the maintenance and cleanliness of health centers,” Soren concluded.
This announcement comes as part of the Jharkhand government’s larger strategy to improve public health outcomes by expanding access to healthcare professionals and facilities, particularly in underserved areas. The appointments and initiatives outlined by the Chief Minister are seen as critical steps toward achieving a more equitable and efficient healthcare system in the state.
