मुंबई, फरवरी 2026: “एजुकेट गर्ल्स” की संस्थापक सफीना हुसैन को टाइम वुमेन ऑफ द ईयर 2026 की सूची में शामिल किया गया है। यह सम्मान वैश्विक स्तर पर बदलाव लाने वाली और समानता के लिए काम कर रही महिलाओं को दिया जाता है।

सफीना हुसैन 16 वैश्विक सम्मानित महिलाओं में से एक हैं। इस सूची में अभिनेत्री टियाना टेलर, जिन्होंने ‘वन बैटल आफ्टर अनदर’ में शानदार प्रदर्शन से हॉलीवुड में सराहना पाई; सिडनी मैक्लॉघलिन, ओलंपिक गोल्ड मेडलिस्ट और रिकॉर्ड तोड़ने वाली खिलाड़ी, जो ट्रैक और फील्ड में उत्कृष्टता की नई परिभाषा दे रही हैं; प्रसिद्ध अभिनेत्री और निर्माता लूसी ल्यू; और टीवी, फिल्म और थिएटर में काम करने वाली जानी-मानी अभिनेत्री और गायिका शर्ली ली राल्फ जैसी हस्तियाँ शामिल हैं। ‘टाइम वुमन ऑफ द ईयर’ के सम्मान के रूप में यह पहचान सफीना हुसैन के मिशन को वैश्विक स्तर पर पहचान देती है, जो शिक्षा में लिंग अंतर को कम करने के लिए काम कर रही हैं।
सफीना हुसैन ने वर्ष 2007 में एजुकेट गर्ल्स संस्था की स्थापना की, ताकि भारत के ग्रामीण, दूरदराज और आदिवासी क्षेत्रों में पढ़ाई से दूर रहने वाली लड़कियों की समस्या का समाधान किया जा सके। राजस्थान के कुछ गाँवों से शुरू हुआ यह प्रयास अब भारत में लड़कियों की शिक्षा को समर्थन देने वाले सबसे बड़े समुदाय-आधारित प्रयासों में से एक बन चुका है, जो 30,000 से अधिक गाँवों और 12 राज्यों तक पहुँच स्थापित कर चुका है। सफीना हुसैन ने टाइम के इंटरव्यू में कहा, “पहले दिन से लेकर आज तक, हमारा ध्यान सिर्फ पढ़ाई से दूर रहने वाली लड़कियों पर रहा है, क्योंकि यह मेरा खुद का अनुभव है। मुझे पता है कि पीछे रह जाने पर कैसा लगता है।”
यह सम्मान सफीना हुसैन और एजुकेट गर्ल्स के लिए एक अद्भुत साल के बाद आया है। वर्ष 2025 में, इस संस्था ने रमन मैगसेसे पुरस्कार (जिसे अक्सर एशिया का नोबेल पुरस्कार कहा जाता है) जीतने वाली पहली भारतीय संस्था बनने का गौरव हासिल किया। इसके अलावा, संस्था ने अपने टीईडी ऑडिशियस प्रोजेक्ट के लक्ष्य को पूरा किया और 20 लाख से अधिक पढ़ाई से दूर रहने वाली लड़कियों को फिर से शिक्षा में लौटने में मदद की। सफीना ‘एवरी लास्ट गर्ल: अ जर्नी टू एजुकेट इंडियाज़ फॉरगॉटन डॉटर्स’ नामक किताब की लेखिका भी हैं, जो जनवरी में प्रकाशित हुई थी। इस पुस्तक में उन्होंने अपने व्यक्तिगत सफर को भारत के सबसे वंचित समुदायों की लड़कियों की कहानियों के साथ जोड़ा है। इसमें जमीन स्तर पर उन रुकावटों का वर्णन है, जो लाखों लड़कियों को स्कूल से दूर रखती हैं और उन समाधानों का भी जिक्र है, जो उन्हें फिर से पढ़ाई में लौटने में मदद करते हैं।
इस सम्मान के बारे में बात करते हुए सफीना हुसैन ने कहा, “मुझे यह सम्मान मिलने पर बहुत सम्मान और कृतज्ञता महसूस हो रही है। यह सम्मान भारत में लड़कियों की शिक्षा के लिए चल रहे आंदोलन पर ध्यान आकर्षित करता है और हमारी लड़कियों के साहस, धैर्य और अपना भविष्य बनाने के मजबूत संकल्प को उजागर करता है। यह सम्मान हमारे संकल्प को और मजबूत करता है कि हम वर्ष 2035 तक दस मिलियन (एक करोड़) और लड़कियों तक पहुँच स्थापित करेंगे और हर लड़की को आवाज, चुनाव का अधिकार और आत्मनिर्भरता दिलाएँगे।”
गायत्री नायर लोबो, सीईओ, एजुकेट गर्ल्स ने कहा, यह सम्मान सरकार और स्थानीय समुदायों के साथ लगातार सहयोग के महत्व को दिखाता है। उन्होंने कहा, “हमें बहुत गर्व है कि भारत के ग्रामीण इलाकों की 20 लाख से अधिक लड़कियों को फिर से शिक्षा में वापस लाने के विज़न के लिए टाइम के वैश्विक मंच पर सफीना हुसैन को सम्मानित किया गया है। यह महत्वपूर्ण सम्मान उन लड़कियों तक पहुँच स्थापित करने के लिए चल रही निरंतर साझेदारी के महत्व को रेखांकित करता है, जो अभी-भी शिक्षा से दूर हैं और उन्हें पढ़ाई में बनाए रखने और सफल बनाने के प्रयासों को मजबूत करता है। यह सम्मान हमारे 55,000 से अधिक स्वयंसेवकों, हजारों लैंगिक समानता समर्थकों, भागीदारों और सहयोगियों के समर्पण को भी दर्शाता है, जिनकी मेहनत से यह काम संभव हो पाया है।”
सफीना हुसैन और एजुकेट गर्ल्स को मिली यह पहचान लड़कियों को शिक्षा के माध्यम से सशक्त बनाने के उनके मिशन का एक नया पड़ाव है। इस साल की टाइम वुमन ऑफ द ईयर सूची में टाइम उन हस्तियों को सम्मानित कर रहा है, जिनके बारे में उसका मानना है कि वे “2026 में महिलाओं और लड़कियों के सामने आने वाली सबसे गंभीर समस्याओं पर काम कर रहे हैं।” टाइम 10 मार्च को लॉस एंजेलेस में होने वाले ‘वुमन ऑफ द ईयर लीडरशिप फोरम’ और ‘वुमन ऑफ द ईयर गाला’ में 2026 की वुमन ऑफ द ईयर पुरस्कार का जश्न मनाएगा।
