DPS Bokaro Alumnus Neelkanth Mishra Appointed India’s Executive Director at the World Bank

Bokaro has added another glorious chapter to its legacy as renowned economist and DPS Bokaro alumnus Neelkanth Mishra has been appointed as India’s next Executive Director (ED) at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has officially approved his appointment. Mishra will succeed former IAS officer Parameswaran Iyer, a retired 1981-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre officer. According to the government notification, his tenure will be effective from the date he assumes charge and will continue for three years or until further orders.

Neelkanth Mishra is one of India’s most respected economists and has played a significant role in shaping economic policy discussions in the country. A former Chief Economist at Axis Bank, he has also served as a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council. In addition, he contributed as an advisor to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which spearheaded India’s digital identity revolution.

The appointment has brought immense pride to DPS Bokaro, where Mishra studied in the Class of 1993. An outstanding student from the very beginning, he secured an All India Rank 4 in the IIT entrance examination in 1993. He is the son of former Bokaro Steel Plant officer Prakash Chandra Mishra and Mrs. Kiran Mishra.

DPS Bokaro Principal Dr. A. S. Gangwar congratulated Mishra on his remarkable achievement, describing him as a global asset in the field of economics. He recalled teaching him Chemistry and praised his keen interest in mathematics, science, and economics, as well as his active participation in co-curricular activities. Dr. Gangwar said Mishra’s success serves as an inspiration for millions of young Indians, particularly students from Bokaro.
