Shubhneet Singh, also known as Shubh, a Punjabi musician residing in Canada, has cancelled his trip of India. The notification was issued by BookMyShow after the ticket-buying service received negative feedback on social media for showcasing a performer who is thought to support Khalistan.
There were nine Indian cities where Shubh was planned to perform, including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Pune. During the Still Rollin India Tour, which ran from September 23 to November 5, he was scheduled to perform there.
Singer Shubhneet Singh’s Still Rollin Tour for India has been cancelled, according to BookMyShow, which announced the news on social media. For all customers who had bought tickets for the performance, BookMyShow has started a full refund of the ticket price. The customer’s source account of the original transaction will show the refund within 7 to 10 working days.
Some people referred to Shubh, the musician who goes by the stage name “Khalistani,” as a “Khalistani” and a supporter of separatist leaders while the hashtag #UninstallBookMyShow was trending earlier in the day on X.
3 things you should be aware of
- Shubh, a Canadian singer, is allegedly a supporter of Khalistan, according to Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), who made the assertion lately.
- The BJYM asserted that Shubh shared a distorted image of an Indian map on social media in March.
- The rapper-singer’s India tour was urged to be called off by the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which sent a memo to the Mumbai police commissioner asking for harsh punishment.
Tour of Shubh cancelled due to diplomatic dispute between India and Canada
The decision was made in the midst of a diplomatic dispute between Canada and India, which resulted in the expulsion of a senior diplomat from each country. The murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, in British Columbia in June of this year was allegedly carried out by New Delhi, according to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. India swiftly rejected Canada’s claim as ludicrous.
The dispute has deteriorated the already tense relations between the two nations and put the brakes on trade negotiations, which have been put on hold.
Why have Shubh’s gigs been cancelled in India?
Shubh became embroiled in a scandal during the diplomatic dispute between India and Canada when BJYM claimed that the musician had shared a distorted map of India on his social media account in March that left out Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. When the Punjab police were looking for Amritpal Singh, a supporter of the Khalistani movement, he had shared the contentious post at that time.
Members of BJYM have now sent a memorandum to the commissioner of police in Mumbai asking for stern action against him and the cancellation of all of his planned performances in India, days before his concerts in that country.
What is the diplomatic conflict between Canada and India about?
According to PTI, Canada and India recently expelled a senior diplomat each after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said “agents of the Indian government” were responsible for the murder of a major Sikh separatist leader in Surrey in June.
The Ministry of External Affairs responded to the accusations and released a statement, which is currently available on the official website, in which it stated, “We have seen and rejected the statement of the Canadian Prime Minister in their Parliament, as well as the statement by their Foreign Minister. Allegations that the Indian government took part in any violence in Canada are preposterous and illogical. The Canadian Prime Minister levelled similar accusations against our Prime Minister, which he flatly denied. We have a strong commitment to the rule of law and are a democratic government.
“Such unfounded allegations seek to divert attention from Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who have been given shelter in Canada and continue to pose a threat to India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement continues. It has long been a source of worry that the Canadian government is doing little about this issue. It is nevertheless quite troubling that political people in Canada have publicly voiced their support for such groups. It is not new for Canada to allow a variety of unlawful activities, such as murder, human trafficking, and organised crime. Any efforts to tie the Indian government to these events are rejected by us. We implore the Canadian government to act swiftly and forcefully in the legal arena to dismantle any anti-Indian groups working there.
