Mumbai Police arrested Mihir Shah, the absconding suspect in the BMW hit-and-run case, after a three-day manhunt

After going missing for three days, 24-year-old Mihir Shah, the key accused in the BMW hit-and-run case and the son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, was taken into custody on Tuesday night. After one of Mihir’s buddies turned on his cell phone, the Mumbai police were able to locate him.

On Monday, he killed a woman in Worli after crashing his fast BMW into a scooter and dragged her for around two kilometers. The spouse of the woman sustained wounds. After the accident, Mihir remained missing for over two days. He rode the same BMW to the Kala Nagar neighborhood of Bandra.

Sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle was his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, who was also taken into custody by the authorities. Mihir told his father Rajesh Shah about the incident over the phone later. The 24-year-old was then instructed to leave the city by Rajesh, who also informed him that Rajrishi would bear responsibility for the mishap.

Mihir called his girlfriend after speaking with his father, and he took an autorickshaw to her home in Goregaon. Between the two on July 7 morning, the police discovered that there had been 40 calls. He told his girlfriend about the accident and the woman’s passing while he was spending roughly two hours sleeping at her house.

His girlfriend then contacted his older sister and her business partner, Pooja. Pooja went to Goregaon and brought Mihir back to their home in Borivali. From there, Mihir, Pooja, their mother Meena, younger sister Kinjal, and a friend named Avdeep traveled in two cars to a resort in Thane West.

Later, they moved to another resort in Murbad. On Monday evening, Mihir and Avdeep departed for a resort in Virar Phata while the others remained at the Murbad resort. Avdeep, who was also being tracked by the police along with Mihir Shah, turned on his phone for just 15 minutes, which allowed the cops to locate both him and Mihir.

The police are questioning Avdeep, Pooja, Kinjal, and Meena, Mihir’s mother. They were not, however, sent to the Worli police station. Conversely, Mihir faced charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’s sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash and careless driving endangering human life), 125-B (endangering life and personal safety), 238, and 324(4) (committing mischief amounting to cause loss and damage).

In addition, he faces charges under the Motor Vehicles Act’s Sections 184, 134A, 134B, and 187.
