In his initial response to the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern for his “friend” on Sunday. PM Modi, known for his strong relationship with the businessman-turned-politician, condemned the violence, stating that it has no place in politics and democracies.
“Deeply concerned by the attack on my friend, former President Donald Trump. Strongly condemn the incident. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. Wish him a speedy recovery,” PM Modi wrote on X.
PM Modi also showed solidarity with the people of America.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, those injured and the American people,” he added.
“During a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, an assassination attempt was made on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. One person was killed, and two others were injured in the shooting. The United States Secret Service neutralized the shooter. Authorities are working to identify the shooter and determine their motive.
Amid the chaos, Trump clutched his ear after the first shots were fired. Secret Service agents quickly shielded him and escorted him to safety. Despite an ear injury causing his face to bleed, Trump showed a defiant gesture by pumping his fist and saying ‘fight’ before being taken away in an SUV.”
U.S. authorities have reported that Donald Trump’s injury is not serious.
On his social networking site, Trump stated that a bullet grazed the upper part of his right ear.
“I was shot, and the bullet pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump posted on his Truth Social app.
He described hearing a whizzing sound and feeling the bullet tear through his skin. “It’s unbelievable that such an act can happen in our country,” Trump added.
Donald Trump is currently the leading candidate in the presidential race.
