Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Advocates Stronger Role for Women in Policing at State-Level Conference

Ranchi, August 15, 2024 Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren took part in the inaugural two-day State-Level Women Police Conference held in Ranchi, marking the first such event in the state. In his address, the CM emphasized the need for the empowerment of women in the police force and congratulated all participants for making this milestone event a success.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Soren wrote, “I attended the two-day State-Level Women Police Conference in Ranchi today. This is the first time such an event is being organized in Jharkhand. Congratulations and best wishes to everyone involved.”

Soren revealed that the conference generated several valuable suggestions related to strengthening the role of women police officers. He expressed his commitment to implementing these ideas to enhance the functioning of the state’s police department. “In the past, various strategies have been implemented to strengthen the police system, and this initiative adds to those efforts,” he noted.

The Chief Minister also suggested that such conferences be held more frequently. “I have been informed that the Jharkhand Police plans to make this an annual event, but I believe this conference should be held every six months,” he said, stressing the importance of continuous dialogue and progress in this area.

Highlighting the significant role of women in society, Soren remarked that women are excelling alongside men in numerous fields and should have a prominent presence in law enforcement as well. “Women play a crucial role in our society, and in policing, their responsibilities are equally vital. The police must carry out their duties with integrity and fairness. For instance, if a woman comes to file a harassment complaint, why shouldn’t the person writing the case diary be a woman?” he questioned.

Soren also emphasized the importance of women police officers maintaining regular contact with female hostels and groups to ensure open communication and trust. “Our aim is to see the current 5-6% representation of women in the police force rise to 50%, and the government is fully prepared to provide the necessary support to achieve this goal,” he declared.

Reiterating the importance of building a strong foundation, Soren concluded, “A robust foundation is key to future growth. Our vision is for a more empowered Jharkhand Police, and today’s conference is a step in that direction. Congratulations and best wishes to all on this occasion.”

The Chief Minister’s remarks have generated positive reactions, underscoring the growing focus on gender inclusion and empowerment within the Jharkhand police force. The event is set to become a regular feature in the state, reflecting a broader commitment to boosting women’s representation in law enforcement.
