Jharkhand: Hemant Government Takes Swift Action Against Stone Pelters at BJYM Rally, FIR Filed Against 51 Named and 12,000 Unidentified Individuals

Ranchi, August 26, 2024 The Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government has taken stringent action following the violent stone-pelting incident during the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) rally in Ranchi’s Morhabadi on August 23. An FIR has been registered at Lalpur police station against 51 identified individuals and nearly 12,000 unknown participants linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The FIR lists charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including disturbing public peace, attempted murder, and obstructing official duties. The move indicates the state government’s intent to address the unrest and hold those responsible accountable.

The incident occurred during the BJYM’s “Yuva Aakrosh Rally,” which aimed to express discontent with the state government’s policies. As the rally moved towards the Chief Minister’s residence, tensions escalated near the barricades set up by the police. When the crowd attempted to breach the barriers, law enforcement responded with tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannons to disperse the protestors. In retaliation, enraged BJP workers resorted to stone-pelting, leading to chaos and injuries on both sides.

According to the police, the rally quickly turned violent, forcing them to take control measures to prevent further escalation. The FIR lodged against such a vast number of people underscores the gravity of the situation and highlights the government’s zero-tolerance stance against such acts of violence.

The situation has drawn significant political attention, with both sides trading accusations. BJP leaders have condemned the police action, terming it an attack on democratic rights. On the other hand, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and its allies have accused the BJP of attempting to destabilize the state through disruptive tactics.

As investigations continue, the state’s political atmosphere remains charged, with the opposition gearing up for further confrontations. The stone-pelting incident has only intensified the already growing tensions between the ruling coalition and the BJP in Jharkhand.
