Former CM Champai Soren Returns to Ranchi Amid Political Speculation, Soon to Join BJP

Ranchi, August 26, 2024 Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren returned to Ranchi today after a brief visit to Delhi, where he reportedly met with senior BJP leaders. Amid the growing political tension in Jharkhand, Soren’s return has sparked widespread speculation that he may resign from all his current posts in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as early as today.

Upon his arrival at Ranchi Airport, Soren was greeted by a large group of enthusiastic supporters, reflecting his significant influence in the state’s political landscape. He is expected to head directly to his residence in Morhabadi, where he may hold discussions with senior BJP leaders regarding his formal induction into the party.

Sources suggest that Soren is likely to join the BJP on August 30, a move that could dramatically alter the political equation in Jharkhand ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The state’s BJP unit, led by Babulal Marandi, has already extended a warm welcome to Soren, signaling his likely integration into the party.

Marandi, who also returned from Delhi today, dismissed any notions of resentment within the BJP regarding Soren’s potential entry. He acknowledged the surveillance and political maneuvers often employed by the Hemant Soren government but assured that such tactics would not deter the party’s plans.

High-level discussions in Delhi have added to the anticipation, with key BJP leaders, including Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Himanta Biswa Sarma, expected to be in Ranchi on August 30. The details of the meetings remain confidential, but they are believed to be part of the larger strategy to strengthen the BJP’s position in Jharkhand.

As the political drama unfolds, all eyes are on Champai Soren’s next move, which could significantly impact the state’s political dynamics ahead of the elections.
