गुमला जिला मुख्यालय स्थित पालकोट प्रखंड मुख्यालय के साप्ताहिक बाजार से वापस पैदल घर लौटते समय एक नियंत्रित तेज रफ्तार पिकअप वाहन की चपेट में आने से एक महिला की घटना स्तर पर हुई दर्दनाक मौत प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों के अनुसार, विमला देवी गांधीनगर शिव मंदिर पालकोट के समक्ष सड़क किनारे पैदल चल रही थीं। तभी एक तेज रफ्तार पिकअप वाहन ने उन्हें जोरदार टक्कर मार दी। टक्कर इतनी भयंकर थी कि विमला देवी सड़क पर गिरकर गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गईं।
हादसे के बाद मौके पर अफरातफरी मच गई, लोग अपनी अपनी जान बचाने के लिए इधर-उधर भागने लगे और बाद में घटनास्थल पर उपस्थित ग्रामीण ने आनन फानन में उक्त घायल महिला विमला देवी को तुरंत इलाज के लिए सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र पालकोट पहुंचाया, जहाँ डॉक्टर ने उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया। इस घटना से परिजनों और ग्रामीणों में शोक का माहौल है।
दुर्घटना की सूचना मिलते ही घटनास्थल पर ग्रामीणों की भीड़ उमड पड़ी , बाद में स्थानीय लोगों ने पालको थाना पुलिस को दी गयी, उक्त घटना की सूचना मिलते ही पालकोट थाना पुलिस ने त्वरित कार्रवाई करते हुए, घटनास्थल पर पहुंचकर उपस्थित लोगों से पूछताछ करते हुए, उक्त शव को अपने कब्जे में लेते हुए पोस्टमार्टम हेतु उक्त शव को गुमला सदर अस्पताल स्थित पोस्टमार्टम हाउस भिजवाया गया,
स्थानीय ग्रामीणों ने प्रशासन से सड़क में चल रहे हैं तेज रफ्तार वाहनों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई की मांग की है। ग्रामीणों का कहना है कि इस मार्ग पर अक्सर वाहन तेज गति से चलते हैं, जिससे दुर्घटनाओं का खतरा बना रहता है, उन्होंने प्रशासन से सड़क सुरक्षा के लिए आवश्यक कदम उठाने की अपील की है।
