नेहरू ने अपने जमाने के मशहूर कार्टूनिस्ट शंकर से कहा था – मुझे भी मत बख्शना…!

‘ये देश नहीं बिकने दूंगा…!’ बोलकर महामानव ने अवाम को जगमोहनी बुटी खिलानेे-चटाने का भरपूर प्रयास किया और इसमें वे काफी हद तक सफल रहे. वही दूसरी ओर नौटंकीबाज, जुमलेबाज, झांंसाराम, फेंकू के नाम अबतक हजारों कार्टून बन चुके हैं. कुछ के खिलाफ तो मामले दर्ज हुए. कुछ जेल भी गए. महामानव अपने खिलाफ सुनने की हिम्मत कभी नहीं जुटा पाते. क्योंकि उनका दिल बहुत संकीर्ण है. नेहरू के खिलाफ अर्नगल प्रलाप वे भले माहिर हैं लेकिन उनके पैर की धूल भी नहीं हैं वे.  

पंडित नेहरू खुद की आलोचनाओं को सिर-माथे लेते थे. अपने खिलाफ बननेवाले कार्टूनों से वे कतई विचलित नहीं होते थे, बल्कि उन्हें प्रोत्साहित करते थे. नेहरू ने शासनकाल के मशहूर कार्टूनिस्ट शंकर से एक बार कहा था, ‘शंकर मुझे भी मत बख्शना’. एक आज के नेता हैं जो ट्विटर और फेसबुक पर कार्टूनिस्ट, कॉमेडियन और आम लोगों को नोटिस भिजवा रहे हैं, अकाउंट बंद करवा रहे हैं. कई कार्टूनिस्ट अपनी कला के लिए कार्रवाई का सामना कर रहे हैं.

शंकर ने नेहरू पर करीब 4000 कार्टून बनाए

मशहूर कार्टूनिस्ट शंकर और नेहरू के किस्सा आपने भी कहीं पढ़ा होगा. उस दौर के दिग्गज कार्टूनिस्ट केशव शंकर पिल्लई के कॉलम का उद्घाटन था. शंकर ने नेहरू से कहा कि वे उनके कॉलम का उद्घाटन करें. इसपर नेहरू ने कहा कि उद्घाटन तो मैं जरूर करूंगा, लेकिन एक शर्त पर कि आप हमें भी न बख्शें.

शंकर ने उनको निराश नहीं किया. द प्रिंट में छपे रशेल जॉन के एक आर्टिकल के मुताबिक, शंकर ने नेहरू पर करीब 4000 कार्टून बनाए. कहते हैं कि नेहरू अपनी बेटी इंदिरा को जो चिट्ठियां लिखते थे, उनके साथ शंकर के कार्टून भी भेजते थे. शंकर बड़ी निर्दयता से नेहरू पर कार्टून बनाते थे ​लेकिन नेहरू इसके लिए उनकी तारीफ करते थे. वे नेहरू की निर्दयतापूर्वक आलोचना करके भी उनकी प्रशंसा पाते रहे.

एक बार नेहरू ने कहा, “शंकर के पास एक दुर्लभ उपहार है. वे एक कलात्मक कौशल के साथ, द्वेष या दुर्भावना के बिना, सार्वजनिक मंच पर खुद को प्रदर्शित करने वालों की कमजोरियों को उभारते हैं. हमारे दंभ का पर्दा बार-बार हट जाना अच्छा है.” बाद में शंकर के बनाए कार्टून ‘डोंट स्पेयर मी, शंकर’ शीर्षक से प्रकाशित हुए.

नेहरू ने मॉडर्न टाइम्स में अपने ही खिलाफ लेख लिखा

ये वही नेहरू हैं जिन्होंने नवंबर 1957 में मॉडर्न टाइम्स में अपने ही खिलाफ एक जबर्दस्त लेख लिखा. लेखक का नाम था चाणक्य और लेख का शीर्षक था ‘द राष्ट्रपति’. इस लेख में जनता को नेहरू के तानाशाही रवैये के खिलाफ चेतावनी देते हुए कहा गया था कि नेहरू को इतना मजबूत न होने दो कि वो सीजर हो जाए. बाद में खुलासा हुआ कि नेहरू हर तरफ अपनी तारीफ और जय-जयकार सुनकर उकता चुके थे. उन्हें महसूस हो रहा था कि बिना मजबूत विपक्ष के लोकतंत्र का कोई मतलब नहीं होता. क्या आज आप ऐसी कल्पना कर सकते हैं?

देश की आजादी के लिए एक दशक तक जेल काटनेवाले नेहरू को अपनी आलोचना से आपत्ति नहीं थी. आज देश के लिए नाखून कटाए बगैर देश को लूटनेवालों को अपनी आलोचना से आपत्ति है. क्योंकि उन्हें लोकतंत्र नहीं चाहिए. उन्हें लगता है कि देश जनता का नहीं, उनके पिता जी की जागीर है.

शंकर आज जिंदा होते तो, या तो मुकदमे झेल रहे होते या ट्विटर की नोटिस का जवाब दे रहे होते. नेहरू खुद जिंदा होते तो नेशनल हेराल्ड के फर्जी केस में खुद मुख्य आरोपी होते।
