चढ़ावा-चोरी की हकीकत…हम मूलतः भ्रष्टाचार को चुपचाप सहने और अक्सर उसमें शामिल रहनेवाले समाज में बदल चुके हैं

राम मंदिर में चढ़ावा-चोरी को लेकर चल रहा विवाद भावुकता से राजनीति तक की परिधि में पसरा हुआ है- किसी को भावनाएं आहत होने की फिक्र है तो किसी के सामने सवाल है कि इसका यूपी चुनावों पर क्या असर पड़ेगा। लेकिन जो एक बुनियादी चिंता इस पूरे मसले से सामने आनी चाहिए, वह सिरे से गायब है। दरअसल इस चढ़ावा-चोरी ने याद दिलाया है कि हम मूलतः भ्रष्टाचार या कई अन्य बुराइयों को चुपचाप सहने और अकसर उसमें शामिल रहने वाले समाज में बदल चुके हैं।

चढ़ावा-चोरी करने वाले लोग अगर भगवान से नहीं तो भक्तों से तो डरते- कि अगर यह पकड़ में आ गया तो उनका सामाजिक बहिष्कार शुरू हो जाएगा। लेकिन ऐसा कोई डर उनके भीतर नहीं था। उनमें से कुछ लोग अगर पकड़े गए और जेल की सलाखों के पीछे हैं तो भी यह संदेह बचा हुआ है कि बहुत सारे चढ़ावा-चोर बाहर हैं और पकड़े गए लोगों को कड़ी से कड़ी सजा दिलाने की बात कर रहे हैं।

हमारा समाज धीरे-धीरे कुछ भी अनुभव करने की शक्ति खोता जा रहा है। मंदिर में चोरी हो, साम्प्रदायिक हिंसा हो, दुष्कर्म हो, भ्रष्टाचार हो- हमें कुछ भी उद्वेलित नहीं करता। करने को हम सबका विरोध करते हैं, सबके खिलाफ गुस्सा जताते हैं, लेकिन यह महज एक प्रदर्शन, एक दिखावा भर होता है कि दूसरों ने देख लिया है कि हम चुप नहीं हैं।

हम बस शोर सुनते और करते हैं और मान लेते हैं कि इसी में हमारे सरोकार झलक रहे हैं। जिन मामलों की हम पर सीधी चोट पड़ती है, उन पर भी क्रोध जताने के अलावा कुछ नहीं करते- चाहे वह पेपर लीक का मामला हो या पेट्रोल में इथेनॉल मिलाने को लेकर चल रही बहस हो।

हिंदू धर्म में भी पाप-निवारण के बहुत सारे उपाय व कर्मकांड प्रचलित हैं

यहां से एक और सवाल पैदा होता है। क्या इस पाखंड के पीछे हमारे संस्कार भी हैं? दुनिया भर के धर्मों की यह समस्या रही है कि उनमें ईश्वर और भक्त के बीच एजेंट बैठे होते हैं, जो भरोसा दिलाते हैं कि ऊपर वाला बहुत कृपालु है और वह सबके पाप धोता रहता है।

इंग्लैंड में एक दौर में पाप-विमोचन प्रमाण-पत्र बेचे जाते थे। चौदहवीं-पंद्रहवीं सदियों में चर्च में निहित भ्रष्टाचार के विरुद्ध जॉन विकलिफ से लेकर मार्टिन लूथर तक के संघर्ष ने प्रोटेस्टेंट चर्च की बुनियाद डाली। हिंदू धर्म में भी पाप-निवारण के बहुत सारे उपाय और कर्मकांड प्रचलित हैं।

इस्लाम में भी मौलवियों के अजीबोगरीब फतवों ने सच्चे मुसलमानों का जीना मुश्किल कर रखा है। ऐसे धार्मिक पाखंड व वर्चस्व के साथ जब राजनीति जुड़ जाती है तो मंदिर-निर्माण से लेकर राष्ट्र-निर्माण तक की परियोजनाएं अप्राश्नेय पवित्रतावाद की आड़ में तमाम तरह के धतकरमों से आगे बढ़ाई जाती हैं। इसमें सच्चा धार्मिक व्यक्ति ही सबसे अकेला पड़ जाता है।

एक तरफ राजनीतिक समीकरण हैं तो दूसरी तरफ निजी आस्थाओं का हवाला

क्या भारत में भी इन दिनों यही खेल चल रहा है, जिसे इस उत्तर-आधुनिक समय की विडम्बनाएं कुछ और बेलगाम होने में मदद कर रही हैं? अब बाजार वह नियामक शक्ति है, जिसे पता है कि कब राजनीति का इस्तेमाल करना है, कब धर्म का और कब खेल का। चढ़ावा-चोरी भी इस बाजार के लिए एक विक्रय योग्य विषय ही है, जिसमें एक तरफ राजनीतिक समीकरण हैं तो दूसरी तरफ निजी आस्थाओं का हवाला।

इस लड़ाई में जीत उसकी नहीं होगी, जो यह भरोसा दिलाएगा कि वह चढ़ावा-चोरी पूरी तरह रोक देगा या मंदिर की पवित्रता बनाए रखेगा, बल्कि उसकी होगी, जिसके होने से एक बड़े तबके में अपने हितों की सुरक्षा का आश्वासन होगा।

एक बहुत स्थूल- मोटी चमड़ी वाली- स्वार्थपरता शायद इन दिनों हमारा मिजाज बनी हुई है और हमें इस बात से बहुत फर्क नहीं पड़ता कि दुनिया में क्या हो रहा है और कैसे हो रहा है। दुर्भाग्य से जब उसकी मार हम पर पड़ती है, तब हमें समझ में आता है कि हमारी निर्लिप्तता या तटस्थता ही हमारी वास्तविक शत्रु है।

हम भ्रष्टाचार या अन्य बुराइयों को चुपचाप सहने वाले समाज में बदल चुके हैं। चढ़ावा-चोरी करने वाले अगर भगवान से नहीं तो भक्तों से तो डरते- कि अगर यह पकड़ में आ गया तो सामाजिक बहिष्कार शुरू हो जाएगा।
