UP Government Orders SIT Probe into Ram Mandir Donation Misappropriation Allegations

Ayodhya, June 14: The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of financial misappropriation involving donations made at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The decision comes after days of growing political scrutiny and public debate over the claims.

The SIT, formed on the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will comprise a senior-ranking police officer along with two high-level government officials. The move marks the state’s first formal response to allegations that had previously been dismissed by members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the state government as either rumors or an internal matter concerning the trust managing the temple.

In an official statement issued on June 13, the Uttar Pradesh government said the investigation team was constituted following a request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which oversees the temple’s administration. However, neither the Trust nor any of its members have publicly confirmed making such a request.

The government has not disclosed when the alleged request was submitted or the specific concerns that prompted it. Until now, the Trust had maintained that it had found no evidence of wrongdoing and had not publicly acknowledged any need for an inquiry.

According to the government’s press note, rumors regarding the handling of donation boxes at the Ram Mandir have been circulating widely on social media. The statement said Chief Minister Adityanath took the matter seriously and ordered a thorough investigation.

The government further stated that the Trust believes a detailed probe is necessary to establish the facts and put an end to speculation. The Trust reportedly described the allegations as part of a broader conspiracy aimed at damaging the reputation of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra and undermining the faith of millions of devotees.

The SIT is expected to examine the allegations, verify the claims surrounding temple donations, and submit its findings to the state government. The investigation is likely to attract significant public attention given the religious and political importance of the Ram Mandir project.
