Spain’s President Pedro Sánchez will not attend the G20 Summit in Delhi after testing positive for COVID-19.

On September 7, Pedro Sánchez, the president of Spain, tested positive for COVID-19. He won’t be present at the G20 summit that will be held in India.

In a post on to X (formerly Twitter), Sánchez said, “This afternoon I have tested positive for COVID and will not be able to travel to New Delhi for the G20 Summit. I feel fine.”

The First Vice President Nadia Calvino, the Minister of Economic Affairs, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation will represent Spain at the G20 Summit, he continued.

Sánchez is one of three world leaders who canceled their attendance at the G20 Summit. Additionally, neither Russian President Vladimir Putin nor Chinese President Xi Jinping will be attending the G20 Summit in Delhi.

The recently inaugurated Bharat Mandapam in the nation’s capital has been transformed into the venue for the G20 Summit.

The G20 Summit is being held for the first time when India is in the presidency. Numerous world leaders and delegates will attend the event.

The summit has undergone extensive planning and preparation with the goal of presenting both India’s soft power and its contemporary face.

The G20 was established in 1999 with the goal of preserving global financial stability by including middle-income nations.

On December 1 of last year, India took over as G20 president, and 60 cities around the nation hosted 200 G20 meetings. The culmination of all G20 processes and talks with ministers, senior officials, and civil society will take place during the 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi.

At the conclusion of the G20 Summit, a statement from the G20 Leaders outlining their support for the goals discussed and decided at the corresponding ministerial and working group meetings will be adopted.

Brazil will assume the next G20 leadership in 2024, followed by South Africa in 2025.

Who are coming?

US Vice President Joe Biden has departed for India in order to attend the G20 Summit, where he will also meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a one-on-one basis. Along with Biden, other world leaders who will visit New Delhi shortly include the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the Australian Anthony Albanese, the French President Emmanuel Macron, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Joe Biden will appear after a COVID-19 test that was negative. His wife, First Lady Jill Biden, reportedly tested negative after getting a positive test result on Monday. Fumio Kishida, the prime minister of Japan, will be greeted by Ashwini Kumar Choubey, the minister of state for consumer affairs, food and public distribution, and environment, forest, and climate change, at 2:15 today.

According to sources, a news conference would occur at Bharat Mandapam on Friday in the afternoon. Three bilateral meetings are also scheduled for today, according to sources.

India has prepared to host international leaders for the upcoming G20 Summit by enforcing traffic restrictions starting on Friday in New Delhi. Kristalina Georgieva, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the prime minister of the Maldives, Bola Tinubu, and Alberto Fernandez have already arrived in Delhi.
