गुमला जिले में सांप काटने की घटनाओं में काफी वृद्धि हुई है, प्रत्येक दिन तीन-चार व्यक्ति को सांप डंस ( काट ) रहा है ।

गुमला – गुमला जिला के विभिन्न प्रखंडों और सुदूरग्रामीण क्षेत्रों से लगातार सांप डसने (काटने )से प्रतिदिन तीन चार लोग पीड़ित हो रहें हैं , गुमला जिला अंतर्गत स्थित रायडीह – सुरसांग थाना स्थित सलकाया भीलवाडीह निवासी 23 वर्षीय निरामुनी देवी अपने गांव की अन्य महिलाओं के साथ चांटु पहाड़ से दातुन पत्ता, रूगडा – पुटू आदि वन्य सामाग्री लेकर आने के क्रम में एक ब्लेक कोबरा सांप ने पिछे डंस ( काट ) लिया , फलस्वरूप उसकी स्थिति काफी गंभीर हो गई, बाद में उसे आनन-फानन में इलाज के लिये, रायडीह उप स्वास्थ्य केंद्र ले जाया गया जहां डॉक्टर ने प्राथमिक उपचार के बाद उसे गुमला सदर अस्पताल रेफर कर दिया गया, दूसरी घटना गुमला सदर थाना स्थित डूमरडीह ग्राम में विरेन्द्र उरांव के 16 वर्षीय पुत्र विवेक उरांव अपने गांव के मैदान में फूटबॉल खेलने के बाद एक गड्ढे डोभा में पैर हांथ धोने के क्रम में एक जहरीले सांप के डंसने (काटने) से उसकी स्थिति काफी गंभीर होने पर उसे इलाज के लिये गुमला सदर अस्पताल में भर्ती करवाया गया हैं जहां उसका इलाज चल रहा हैं, तथा तीसरी घटना गुमला सदर थाना स्थित वृंदा ग्राम में बेलचा से बालू उठाने के क्रम में तुसगांव ग्राम निवासी गणेश बड़ाइक जो अपने ससुराल में रहकर घर बनाने के लिए बेलचा से बालू उठा रहा था इसी क्रम में एक जहरीले करैयत सांप उसके हांथ में चढ़कर मौत से लिपट गया और उसके हांथ में डंस (काट) लिया जिसे आनन-फानन में इलाज के लिये गुमला सदर अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया हैं, जहां उक्त तीनों लोगों का इलाज सदर अस्पताल के डॉक्टरों के देखरेख में चल रहा हैं , अंधविश्वास के चक्कर में पड़कर सूदुर ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में सांप काटने से उक्त ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों के लोग सर्वप्रथम
झाड़-फूंक और देशी जड़ी बूटी दवा पर अत्यधिक विश्वास करते हैं , और जो अंधविश्वास के चक्कर में पड़कर और समय पर अस्पताल नहीं पहुंचने से उक्त पीड़ित लोग काल के गाल में समा जा रहे हैं , जिला प्रशासन के गुमला उपायुक्त कर्ण सत्यार्थी, पुलिस प्रशासन के गुमला पुलिस कप्तान शंभू कुमार सिंह एवं एसडीपीओ सुरेश प्रसाद यादव द्वारा समय-समय पर जिले के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों और सुदूर ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में अंधविश्वास, डायन बिसाही, झाड़ फूंक, गंडा ताबीज और सांप काटने पर सर्वप्रथम समय पर अस्पताल लाने के लिए जागरूकता अभियान लगातार चलाए जा रहा है , परंतु आजादी कितने वर्ष बाद भी जिले के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में कब तक सड़क उपलब्ध नहीं है फल स्वरुप एम्बुलेंस जाने की व्यवस्था नहीं होने के कारण और देर रात्रि होने के कारण ग्रामीणों को अंधविश्वास झाड़ फूंक और देशी जड़ी बूटी दवा का सहारा लेने के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ता है और समय रहते पीड़ित व्यक्ति को अस्पताल नहीं ले जाने के कारण रास्ते में ही लोगों की मौत हो जाती है , वैसे भी बरसात के दिनों में सांपों के बिल में पानी भर जाने के कारण जहरीले सांप अपने अपने बिलों से बाहर निकल जाते हैं और आबादी वाले क्षेत्रों के घरों में चूहा खाने के लिए घरों में सांप प्रवेश कर जाते हैं और जमीन में सोए व्यक्तियों डंस लेते हैं और लोगों की अकाल मृत्यु हो जाती है , गुमला जिले में सांपों के काटने की घटनाओं में काफी वृद्धि हुई है प्रतिदिन तीन चार व्यक्तियों को सांप काट लेते हैं और कुछ लोगों की मृत्यु भी हो जाती है ।
