Naresh Goyal, the founder of Jet Airways, has been arrested in a ₹ 538 crore bank fraud case

0
  • The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal in connection with an alleged 538 crore money laundering case involving Canara Bank, according to sources.
  • Following a lengthy questioning session at the ED’s Mumbai headquarters, Mr Goyal was brought into prison under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
  • Mr Goyal, 74, will be brought before a special PMLA court in Mumbai on Saturday, where the ED will seek his prison detention.
  • The money laundering case arises from a first information report (FIR) filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Jet Airways, Mr Goyal, his wife Anita, and other former business executives in connection with an alleged 538 crore fraud case at Canara Bank.
  • After an extended period of interrogation at the central agency’s office, he was taken into custody in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). For “causing wrongful loss” to the lender, Canara Bank had filed a complaint in May against the airline, Goyal, his wife, and a former airline director.
  • According to the bank’s allegation, which formed the basis for the FIR, it approved credit limits and loans totaling $848.86 crore for Jet Airways (India) Ltd. (JIL), of which $538.62 crore is still unpaid.
  • The account was reportedly labelled “fraud” on July 29, 2021, according to the CBI.
  • The bank said that JIL’s forensic investigation revealed that it syphoned money from JIL by paying “related companies” 1,410.41 crore out of total commission expenses.
  • According to a sample agreement from Jet Airways (India) Ltd. (JIL), it was specified that General Selling Agents’ (GSA’s) fees were to be covered by GSA alone, not by JIL. But it was discovered that JIL had paid various charges totaling $403.27 crore that weren’t authorised by the GSA, according to the complaint that is now a part of the CBI FIR.
  • Ahead of the Fourth of July, the ED carried out operations across many cities, including Delhi and Mumbai.
  • A number of people were listed as defendants in the FIR, including Jet Airways (India) Limited, Naresh Goyal, his wife Anita Goyal, Gaurang Ananda Shetty, and unidentified public servants and private individuals.
  • According to the complaint, “CGM of Canara Bank, Recovery & Legal Section in Mumbai has submitted regarding alleged offences of cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and criminal misconduct committed by M/s Jet Airways (India) Ltd., Naresh Jagdishrai Goyal, Anita Naresh Goyal, Gaurang Ananda Shetty, and unknown public servants and others causing wrongful loss of 538.62 crores to Canara Bank.”
  • It went on to say that a forensic audit of Jet Airways (India) Ltd’s financial records had discovered fraudulent practises like money syphoning and diversion.
  • During the forensic audit, it was discovered that money was also embezzled through Jet Lite (India) Ltd (JLL), which made investments and advances before writing off the money with provisions.
  • JIL is accused of using loans, advances, and extended investments to transfer money intended for the subsidiary JLL.

Before India’s first Sun mission, “Havans” were undertaken in preparation for the Aditya L1 launch.

0

People in Varanasi performed “havans” while holding images of the Aditya-L1 launch vehicle in celebration of the nation’s first successful launch of a solar mission. On Saturday morning, hours before India’s first Sun mission, Aditya L1, was slated to launch from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 11.50am, prayers and havans were conducted all throughout the nation. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C57 rocket will take out from the Satish Dhawan Space Center’s launchpad.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, people performed “havans” holding pictures of the Aditya-L1 launch vehicle and offering prayers for the successful launch of the country’s maiden solar mission.

A group of locals are seen carrying Indian flags and posters that read “new sun mission by ISRO” in a video released by the news agency PTI. S Somnath, the head of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), conducted prayers earlier on Friday at the Chengalamma Parameshwari Temple in the Tirupati district.

A group of ISRO scientists also went to Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Temple to pray while carrying a model of the Aditya-L1 Mission.

The goals of Aditya-L1

India’s first-ever voyage to study the characteristics of the Sun is Aditya-L1, which was created with this objective in mind. The satellite will travel 125 days to the unique location known as L1 (Lagrangian Point) after being launched. At this moment, the satellite will be able to continuously watch the Sun without interference from eclipses or occultations. Because anything positioned in L1 will remain comparatively stable in relation to the Earth-Sun system, it is particularly interesting.

The primary goals of India’s solar mission are to understand the physics of the solar corona and its heating mechanism, the acceleration of the solar wind, the coupling and dynamics of the solar atmosphere, the distribution of the solar wind, temperature anisotropy, the origin of CMEs and flares, and the near-Earth space weather.

Ahead-of-time alerts about solar winds, which can move at up to 600 km/s, are also available from Aditya-L1. Before the winds reach Earth, the satellite can measure them and send out alerts.

Seven distinct payloads are installed on the spacecraft to investigate the Sun. The Sun’s light will be observed by four of these instruments, while magnetic fields and plasma will be closely examined by three others.

Once it reaches its target orbit, the main payload, the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC), is scheduled to relay 1,440 photos per day to the ground station for study. The strong light from the Sun’s surface can be blocked out by VELC, letting us to continually study the much fainter corona. When there is a total solar eclipse, we can see the corona.

Man in Rajasthan accuses his wife of having an affair and Paraded her naked.

0

According to police reports from last night, on Thursday, a tribal lady in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district was beaten, stripped naked, and led around her village. A man, who is apparently the husband, is seen stripping the 21-year-old lady outside of their home and flaunting her naked as she pleaded for aid in a horrifying video of the assault.

The woman apparently had a relationship with another man, which is what led to the attack on her, according to the police.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party said that “Rajasthan is again ashamed” as a result of the occurrence, chief minister Ashok Gehlot said he ordered the director general of police to send the ADG (Crime) to the scene and take strong action in this case.

According to district chief of police Amit Kumar, the police detained three persons on Saturday in connection with the incident, including the woman’s husband. The accused attempted to run after seeing the police, according to the police, and was hurt in the process. They are being treated in Pratapgarh’s district hospital, and then they will be brought before the judge.

The woman was in a relationship with another man, according to Dhariyawad SHO Peshawar Khan, who also noted that the incident happened on Thursday.

Umesh Mishra, the director general of police (DGP) for Rajasthan, claimed that she was abducted by her in-laws and taken to their village, where the atrocity occurred. He said that she was staying with another man, which annoyed her in-laws. Mishra said ADG (Crime) Dinesh MN was sent to Pratapgarh on Friday night.

What happened in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh

The woman is shown being stripped in front of witnesses in the horrifying footage, after which she is paraded in a village while completely naked.
The Pratapgarh superintendent of police, Amit Kumar, is camped out in the area, according to Mishra, who also stated that six squads have been established to arrest the suspects.

Reacting to the incident, Ashok Gehlot took to X (formally Twitter) and wrote, “In Pratapgarh district, a video of a woman being stripped naked by her in-laws due to some family dispute has surfaced. The Director General of Police has been instructed to send ADG Crime on the spot and take strict action in this matter. There is no place for such criminals in a civilised society. These criminals will be put behind bars as soon as possible and punished after being prosecuted in a fast-track court.”

However, the BJP harshly criticized the Gehlot administration, with JP Nadda, its president, claiming that governance in the state is “totally absent” while the chief minister and his cabinet members are engaged in a factional conflict.

Nadda said on X, “The video from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan is shocking. What is worse is governance in Rajasthan is totally absent. The CM and Ministers are busy settling factional squabbles, and the remaining time is spent appeasing one dynasty in Delhi. It’s no wonder the issue of women’s safety is being completely ignored in the state.”

He added, “Every single day, there is an instance of harassment against women. The people of Rajasthan will teach the state Government a lesson.”

The National Commission for Women also condemned the incident.

“NCW vehemently condemns the harrowing incident in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan. A woman was molested, stripped, and recorded on video. Despite it happening two days ago, police inaction is unacceptable. @sharmarekha (NCW chairperson) has instructed the state’s DGP to promptly arrest the culprits and invoke necessary IPC provisions. We demand a comprehensive report within five days,” the NCW said.

Everyone is in shock at Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s unrecognizable appearance in “Haddi”!

0

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the actor from “Sacred Games,” is back with another stunning avatar. Nawazuddin Siddiqui makes an appearance in a never-before-seen avatar in a motion poster for his upcoming film, “Haddi.”

Nawazuddin may be seen sporting a great hairstyle, makeup, and a grey gown. We all congratulate him on this incredible appearance, and although the poster doesn’t reveal much, we are confident that this will astound us. The movie is now in production, and its release date is most likely in 2023.

In the Bollywood acting industry, he is one of the most adaptable performers. He has racked up a lot of hits and is now prepared to join Haddi in a form he has never seen before. For his “female” outfit in the film, Nawaz first grabbed news a while back. In an interview with an entertainment website, the film’s director, Akshat Ajay Sharma, stated that Nawazuddin Siddiqui was essential to the success of Haddi. Without Nawaz, Haddi doesn’t exist, he declared.

He reads each script aloud. It was difficult to persuade him to sit down with me for three hours given his hectic schedule. But after reading the script, he decided to accept it right away. My only option for this position was him. Why do you suppose I held out for him for a whole year and didn’t present it to anyone else? To handle the character’s appearance, we have the greatest people. The physical look was never a concern for Priyanka and Subhash. The aim was to analyze the character’s mentality, including their sensitivity, strength, sisterhood ties, and desire for revenge after losing everything. I adore how Nawaz takes on board what a director asks of him and then goes above and beyond.

referring to Haddi, In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Nawazuddin said, “I have worked really hard on it after a long period. I resided among the (transgender) group before to filming Haddi. I came to understand that they identify with women. They envision becoming women as something that will complete their life. In order to play the part, I kept these things in mind. I’ve always believed that I’m portraying a female role. It used to be physically and mentally draining. When I used to shoot Khatam Hote Hi, I would exclaim, “Oh my God! I just wanted to go home after the shoot and sleep, so I said, God! Ghar ja k bus so jau’ (I just wanted to go home after shoot and sleep).”

The video depicts his story, from his beginnings as a novice transgender who managed to subsist by committing small-time crimes through his move from Allahabad to Delhi to join the transgender society. Haddi eventually captures the interest of numerous people and rises to the top of the criminal food chain. His transgender family, led by Ila Arun, was harmed by a strong gangster-politician, played by Anurag Kashyap, and he has been seeking retribution ever since. Ila Arun, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Saurabh Sachdeva, Shridhar Dubey, Rajesh Kumar, Vipin Sharma, and Saharsh Shukla are among the other actors in the movie in addition to Nawazuddin and Anurag.

Manipur tense up the acts of violence keep increasing army officials give a statement

0

Manipur has seen communal tensions previously but the current situation is unprecedented owing to the fact that both communities have a large number of weapons, a senior Army official said on Friday. Lt. General PC Nair, Director General of Assam Rifles said, “The situation that we are facing in Manipur is unprecedented. We have never faced anything of this kind. Something similar happened in the early 90s when the Nagas and Kukis fought and then within the Kuki groups there was a fight in the late 90s

Speaking of the current threats, he said, “Today, the biggest challenge is the large number of weapons that are out within both communities. Related to this, is the minds of both communities. Today, there’s so much against each other, it’s so corrupted. “This needs to be stalled. There is a need for realization to come for the people that the only way forward is peace…,” he adds

Changes in the last decade have been phenomenal’

Nair also praised the developments that happened in the last 10 years and urged all to look forwards

“The changes in the last decade have been phenomenal in terms of infrastructure, educational institutions, job opportunities, airports and highways…Who, 10 years ago would have ever imagined that a Femina Miss India or a Durand Cup or a G20 meet would ever happen?”

If somebody asked this question, you would say “Are you mad to ask such a question” but all this has happened and this is what I want to remind the citizens of Manipur. Let’s get back there because as you move forward that is the only way to ensure your socioeconomic progress…, he added

More than 160 people have been killed and several hundred injured since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, when a “Tribal Solidarity March” was organized in the hill districts to protest against the majority Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.

Meitei’s account for about 53 percent of Manipur’s population and live mostly in the Imphal valley, while tribals, including Nagas and Kukis, constitute 40 percent and reside mostly in the hill districts.

in his statement Shillong, Meghalaya | Lt. General PC Nair, Director General of Assam Rifles says “The situation that we are facing in Manipur is unprecedented. We have never faced anything of this kind. Something similar happened in the early 90s when the Nagas and Kukis fought and then within the Kuki groups also there was a fight in the late 90s. Today, the biggest challenge is the large number of weapons that are out within both communities. Related to this, is the minds of both communities. Today, there’s so much against each other, it’s so corrupted. This needs to be stalled. There is a need for realization to come for the people that the only way forward is peace…”

Another person died when a country-made gun he was using misfired and hit him on his face near Narainsena village  on the same day, officials said.

World’s best places to visit for Vacation

0

Choosing the ideal holiday site might be difficult in a globe full with exciting travel spots. There are numerous locations that are not mentioned in the article.

  • Turks and Caicos

This cluster of around 100 islands and cays, located north of the Dominican Republic, is popular with honeymooners, and with good reason. The Turks and Caicos Islands are a sight to behold, with glittering white sand, crystal-clear water, and approximately 350 miles of colourful coral reef. While it would be negligent to visit this typical Caribbean gem without spending a day or two sunbathing on Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales, those preferring a more active retreat will find plenty of possibilities to snorkel, scuba dive, and ride horses along the coast.

  • Maldives

It is neither inexpensive or simple to get to, but this remote Indian Ocean holiday location southwest of India epitomises a wonderful tropical escape. Thatched-roof overwater bungalows rise over the clear blue sea in this isolated resort of more than 1,000 islands, providing convenient water access and a romantic atmosphere. Fill your days on this once-in-a-lifetime holiday with beach excursions, spa treatments, and snorkelling or scuba diving excursions. If cabin fever strikes, head to Malé, the capital, where you’ll find mediaeval mosques and open-air markets.

  • Bora Bora

What this 12-square-mile French Polynesian island lacks in size, it more than makes up for in sheer tropical splendour. Beautiful beaches, rich woods, and magnificent resorts on adjacent islets may be found here. Mount Otemanu, the island’s extinct volcano, makes for a spectacular photo opportunity or tough walk, and friendly Bora Bora residents can help you obtain a peek of the island’s best attractions during an off-road adventure. To unwind, visit Matira Beach, which has crystal-clear water and postcard-worthy white sand. Although a trip to Bora Bora is pricey, most visitors feel it is well worth the money.

  • Maui

Whether you’re travelling down the Road to Hana, taking in a helicopter view of Maui’s lush coastline, snorkelling with sea turtles, or simply relaxing on white or black sand beaches, you’ll discover that this Hawaiian island is unlike any other tropical location. Visit Haleakala National Park, which is home to one of the world’s largest inactive volcanic craters and features spectacular sunrises. You should also go to a traditional luau to get a flavour of local culture and Hawaiian specialties like poi, poke, and i’a fish.

  • Paris

France’s magnetic City of Light is a year-round tourist destination, attracting visitors with renowned sights such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, as well as its unmistakable je ne sais quoi. Paris’s eternal beauty is attributed to its charming cafes, stylish retail districts, and Haussmann architecture. The city’s finest asset, though, is that you’re bound to uncover something new with each visit or season (read: Paris is always a fantastic idea). To best see France’s ever-changing capital, get lost strolling the picturesque cobblestone alleys, uncover its secrets on a walking tour, visit contemporary art displays like the Atelier des Lumières, or gourmandize at the latest restaurants and pastry shops.

In the 1995 double murder case, RJD leader Prabhunath Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment

0

Days after overturning the trial court’s judgment clearing him of all charges in a double homicide case from 1995, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) politician and former Member of Parliament (MP) Prabhunath Singh was sentenced to life in prison on Friday.

Additionally, a bench of justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, AS Oka, and Vikram Nath ordered Singh and the Bihar government to pay the families of the two killed victims and one injured victim each 10 lakh each and separately.

In reality, Singh was brought out of the Jharkhand prison in Hazaribagh, where he is currently serving a life sentence for another crime.

He was convicted of the 1995 slaying of legislator Ashok Singh, who had lost the former MP in the 1995 Bihar assembly election, by a trial court in 2017. Following the election results, Prabhunath Singh had threatened to kill him.

Singh’s attorneys, R. Basanth and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, argued that Singh should not get the death penalty since his case did not qualify as one of the “rarest of rare” crimes. The attorneys added that Singh’s acquittals by two lower courts had been overturned by the Supreme Court and should also be taken into consideration during sentencing. The attorneys also informed the court that Singh had submitted a review petition on August 18 challenging the conviction verdict.

The public prosecutor, the judiciary, and the investigating officer, who is a member of the state of Bihar’s police force, have all “utterly failed to keep up their respective duties and responsibilities cast upon them,” the apex court lamented in its judgment on August 18 convicting Singh.

In the double murder case, the court had found that Singh, a three-term Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) and former RJD MP from Maharajganj, had killed Rajendra Rai (18) and Daroga Rai (47), close to a voting booth in Chhapra in March 1995.

Because the two did not cast their votes as Singh had advised, they were shot and killed.

The case was moved from Chhapra to Patna when the family members of the deceased claimed that witnesses were being intimidated and coerced. In December 2008, a Patna court cleared Singh of all charges due to a lack of evidence. In 2012, the Patna High Court upheld the conviction. The Supreme Court heard a challenge from Rajendra Rai’s brother over the verdict.

The prosecution, trial court, and Patna high court regrettably disregarded Rajendra Rai’s dying declaration and his mother’s eyewitness testimony, the apex court noted in its ruling on August 18 as it regretted that the tainted investigation demonstrates the highhandedness of Singh, who was a powerful individual and a sitting MP of the ruling party.

“The prosecution version in the present case was being demolished brick by brick by using political authority and muscle power with the aid of not only the police administration but also with the aid of Public Prosecutor and unfortunately, the presiding officer of the trial court also conducted himself in a manner unbecoming of a judicial officer,” said the bench, adding several key witnesses and evidence were deliberately kept out or overlooked during the trial to benefit Singh.

It was harshly critical of Singh and said that there was enough evidence to conclude that Singh killed the deceased. It also criticized the “deplorable functioning of the public prosecutor, police administration, and the presiding officer of the trial court to extend undesirable favor” to Singh.

“Both the courts completely shut their eyes to the manner of the investigation, the prosecutor’s role, and the high-handedness of the accused as also the conduct of the presiding officer of the trial court,” it said.

The court, however, affirmed the acquittal of six other co-accused over lack of evidence.

Singh joined Janata Dal in 1995. He later became a member of JD(U) before joining RJD in 2010 after falling out with chief minister Nitish Kumar.
