A 32-year-old man brutally murdered a teenage girl named Meena, chopped her head, and fled with it, the accused identified as Prakash. The incident occurred in Mutlu Village, Somwarpet, in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. The incident happened after when their marriage was put off by Women and Child Development on May 9 as the girl was still minor and the man was twice her age. The officials persuaded the girl’s parents not to marry her off until she was at legal age.
The minor was a student of class 10 and recently passed her SSLC exam obtaining 52% percentages. The motive behind the murder is yet unknown. Both families decided that she would marry Prakash only after she became 18. However, the devastating incident happened on Thursday, around 5: 30p.m, Prakash stormed into Meena’s house, kicking her father and hitting her mother with a sharp-edged weapon that’s used to cut trees. Then, he dragged her outdoors for roughly 100 meters and took her near the periphery of the forest, then he brutally chopped off her head, and left the scene with it, according to Superintendent of Police (Kodagu), Ramarajan K.
The police are investigating the case and launched a search operation to capture the suspect. The victim’s parents are hospitalized and are in stable condition. Her father did not sustain any visible injuries and her mother was treated for her injuries. The victim is the youngest of three sisters and two brothers, according to police. The police have registered the case against the accused under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of children against sexual offenses Act. In Karnataka, the number of women who are slain by men is rising.
